Santorum makes the most sense in this crazy Republican primary

I will keep it simple because it is late. Rick Santorum won tonight's debate by speaking the truth, explaining his points clearly and reminding everyone that the winner of the Republican primary will have to convince the American people to turn Obama out of office. We all know that Romney has baggage: Massachusetts health care, mixed if not poor record on social issues, his wealth - Obama will bring up the class warfare and the media will pummel Romney with it, to name a few. Gingrich has his baggage: issues in Congress, lack of good moral judgment in matters personal, K Street, Fannie Mae, etc.

Santorum has none of these problems. He is principled, honest, and has a record that he can defend. He is solidly pro-life, a defender of the constitution, limited government, less spending and has a handle on the complexities that are foreign affairs. He can attract Democrats, Independents, Latinos and his message is positive and focused.

Rick Santorum is the candidate who can win in November.

So the folks in Florida ought to vote for him in their upcoming primary.

More Tax dollars went to Planned Parenthood in 2010.

According to its annual report for 2009 - 2010, Planned Parenthood received $487.4 million dollars in federal funds. The abortion behemoth performed 329,445 abortions that year. This is an increase from previous year and marks further evidence of the Obama administration's pro-abortion policies. Anyone who thought that this administration would be sympathetic to the needs of the poor and dependent was deluding himself then and is deluding himself now.

This administration is the most anti-life administration in the history of the U.S. Its callused disregard for the rights of conscience, its blatant promotion of abortion providers, its silence toward the disclosure of the pedophile actions of Planned Parenthood, its promotion worldwide of abortion and sterilization,are just some ofthe reasons that this year's elections are so very critical to the future of the nation.

Action item: Contact your congressional representative and tell them to stop all funding of Planned Parenthood.

Santorum Claims Conservative Mantle

Rick Santorum's campaign peaked at the proper time as he and Mitt Romney tied for a photo finish in the Iowa Caucuses last night. Only a week ago, Santorum was not given any chance to place much less win the first in the nation primary. but the confluence of a number of event togther wth his dogged hard work has made the night his own.

Listen to his speech as he touches upon those facets that made America great.

I suspect that rick Perry will return to Texas and bow out of the race.

I think Michelle Bachmann has to be concerned that this is not her time as well.

Romney is expected to win New Hampshire so anything that Santorum does will remind people that Romney has not won over neither the conservatives in the party, nor the pro-life vote. If Bachmann and perry drop out this week, then Then will be a natural growth in the Santorum camp. Gingrich will attempt to claim some of those voters as the other anti-Romney candidate.

Santorum has an exemplary pro-life record. his only error was in supporting Arlan Spector, a major mistake. But compared to the other candidates, he carries much less baggage and can appeal to working class voters in Middle America. So we shall see what happens in New Hampshire.

More on the abortion murder charges in Maryland

Abortionists Steven Chase Brigham and Nicola Irene Riley have been charged with murder in connection with the deaths of viable babies at an illegal secret abortion clinic that the two abortionists operated in Elkton, Maryland.
Brigham is currently being held in the custody at the Camden County Jail in New Jersey and Riley was arrested and Riley is currently in the custody of the Salt Lake County Jail in Utah. Both are awaiting extradition to Maryland.
Brigham was charged with five counts of first-degree murder and five counts of second-degree murder. Riley was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder. The charges are the result of a Grand Jury investigation. In addition, Brigham and Riley were each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder. According to the story posted on Philly.com:

Brigham was never licensed in Maryland, but he routinely performed abortions in Elkton, as he admitted to New Jersey regulators at his October 2010 hearing. His claim that Maryland law allowed him to serve as an unlicensed "consultant" to the clinic "medical director" - an 88-year-old disabled doctor hired by Brigham - was rejected by regulators in both states.
During the Elkton raid, on Aug. 17, 2010, police found 35 late-term fetuses in a freezer, several just a few weeks shy of full term.
The search was prompted by the complaint of an 18-year-old New Jersey woman who had been critically injured four days earlier during an abortion performed by Riley. The patient had to be airlifted to a Baltimore hospital for emergency surgery.
Brigham is charged with five counts each of first- and second-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit murder.
Riley faces one first-degree count, one second-degree count, and a conspiracy charge.

However, it is very interesting that the story which comes on the heels of so many stories of shoddy abortion mills being closed down is not making it big in the mainstream media. the internet wire services are reporting the story but Google did not list it in the top news and one had to search the name to find the story. Yahoo, to its credit listed the story under U.S. News, picking up the Reuters News service feed. But you won't find any mention of the story in the New York Times. CNN listed the story. Even the Washington Post listed the story under "Top Headlines."

The point is that there is still a serious bias against giving any credence to the long held position by pro-lifers that the abortion industry is a gruesome disgusting business that any decent person or business should avoid.

Perhaps with more stories of their horrific activity, there will be a change in perspective that will help usher in a real change throughout the nation.

Abortionists Charged with Murder

One does not read that headline every day but in Maryland two notorious abortionists have been charged with murder after a 16 month investigation lead to grand jury indictments of Steven Brigham and Nicola Riley. President Obama and the pro-abortion Democrat party are responsible for the parade of horrors that continue to plague the nation and especially the northeast corridor.

Brigham and Riley have been on the radar of pro-life activists just as Operation Rescue for years.

The Philadelphia Inquirer also did a major story on Brigham back in 2010 identifying his abortion history and his problems that go back to 1989. He lost his license in several states and according to the Inquirer

Brigham graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1986. By 1990, when abortion became the focus of his practice, he was licensed in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, and Georgia, public records show.

Pennsylvania was the first setback. In a confidential 1992 settlement, Brigham agreed to permanently give up his license amid an investigation of his practice in Wyomissing.
Despite this restriction, Brigham continued to own and expand his abortion business in the state.

In 1994, New York took his license, finding him guilty of "gross negligence" and "inexcusably bad judgment" involving two late-pregnancy abortions. The patients suffered life-threatening bleeding and required emergency hospital operations, public records show.
Brigham maintained offices in New York through 1995 but failed to file state business taxes, a misdemeanor for which he was sentenced to 120 days in jail and $8,188 in restitution, public records show.

In Florida, Brigham lost his license for not disclosing New York's action. California put him on probation and ordered extra training; instead, he let his license lapse, as he did in Georgia.

New Jersey suspended Brigham's license in 1993, citing the same botched abortions as New York, plus other charges.After three years of defending himself against an action by the state Attorney General's Office, Brigham won full reinstatement of his medical privileges.

Pennsylvania's latest disciplinary action came July 7 when Deputy Secretary of Health Robert Torres permanently banned Brigham and any corporation in which he has a controlling interest from providing abortions in the state. Torres' order cites repeated violations of the state's medical licensing rules.

Brigham and Riley are representative of the abortion industry and remind the nation once again why there must be laws against abortion. Just as Kermit Gosnell these two abortionists represent the dark side of the medical profession, a side that panders to the weakness and desperation of the human condition.

As a society we need to offer real hope and help to women with unintended pregnancies and not the false notion that abortion will solve their problems. As a society we nee to value every human person, the mother, the father the child. As a society we need to teach our children to respect the power of human sexuality and not consider that it is merely recreational entertainment. And as a society we need to put laws in place that recognize such principles or all that we say will have no protective meaning.

In an interview to be aired tonight on 20/20 President Obama made this amazing statement.

"The thing actually that I most dislike is cruelty. I can't stand cruel people."

For 36 years I have listened to the pro-choice advocates claim to have compassion for women while ignoring the unborn.I have heard the broken shattered voices of women who regret their abortions and cried with families who lost their daughters, sacrificed to the gods of the abortion industry. I have met the heroes of the pro-life movement who have saved mothers and children, people whose humility is only matched by their own sense of wonder how God has used them to do such good.

And now during this time of the year when the world stops for a moment to reflect on one solitary life, our president claims to dislike cruel people.

Abortion is the ultimate in cruelty to people. Abortionists and those in the abortion industry are by their actions cruel. If the president really wants to do something decent this Christmas, it would be to stop his administration's all out assault on the pro-life movement, to reconsider his own calloused attitude toward life and children, and to appreciate that choosing life - as his mother did - is the most heroic thing a person can do.

Republican Presidential Field and the Pro-life Issue

The jockeying among the presidential candidates to claim the pro-life mantle has begun. Up until now the candidates have all focused on the economy and for all the obvious reasons. Over the last week, however, we have seen a "ramping" up of the issue and different candidates challenging each other on their credentials and bone fides.

Major national right to life organizations have blessed all of the serious Republican contenders as preferable to the current occupant of the White House. National Right to Life, for example, has a sheet highlighting the candidates and the positions on funding, ObamaCare and Roe v. Wade. Other groups such as SBA List have called for candidates to sign a pledge to appoint judges and oppose certain legislation.

Now with the Iowa Caucus less than a month away, both the candidates and their surrogates are launching to attacks on each other. An example was found yesterday in an opinion piece in the Washington Post by Marc Thiessen, who recounts Newt Gingrich's stated and historical positions concerning abortion and related matters. he lists all those who questions Gingrich and his pro-life stand, asking about his actions in Congress. the article also asks why Romney is not playing up this abortion issue more.

Then there is the National Review and its decision to back Romney, joining with the so called "Establishment" folks in D.C. who thinks its Romney's turn. so NRO links to those sites who chip at Newt, who, having had the momentum, now is the guy to be pulled off the hill.

So where does it leave pro-lifers, whether they be in Iowa or New Hampshire or Arizona?

Each of the candidates' supporters point to their candidate's pro-life talking points. In conversations with Romney Supporters, one will hear how Romney vetoed a state law that would have changed the definition of when life began. (I am always amused by the conceit of legislators who believe that by legislating something, they can make it so.) The Bachmann folks beat up on Newt for his implantation confusion. There are constant reminders of Romney's flip flops on being pro-life or pro-choice and whether he even understands - or much less cares.

Perry got roasted in the beginning when he announced over the vaccine issue. People did not life what he did and he agreed that he was wrong.

Dr. Paul, has delivered thousands of babies but unfortunately thinks that abortion is strictly a state's rights issue, a position embraced by some politicians who wish we pro-lifers would just go away.

For records and for being champions, Bachmann and Santorum have a leg up on the other candidates, although Huntsman can point with pride at legislation he signed in Utah while governor.

One can get a good read on the candidates from a little research. There are enough sources to consider as long as one can insure there is not an ulterior motive in the article.Of course, one of the concerns of many voters is that candidates will say one thing and do another. For many in the pro-life movement, there is a jaded attitude toward the political approach, having seen too many missed opportunities. One cannot wait upon political solutions entirely, although eventually a political solution must be reached if we are to ever protect all children.

Those who have checkered pasts need to recognize that the pro-life movement has been burned too many times before so simply accept the "trust me" line. We don't need politicians to treat us as interest groups one trudges out every couple of years to vote and then escort to the back of the bus. And we don't need people to "remind" us that economic issues are "more" important than the life issues or that there should a "truce" in talking about family issues. the reason economic issues are important is because they affect the family - in other words - people. And ultimately "people" are what it is all about.

So where are we on this 20th day of December 2011, a few days before Christmas, with the prospects of the 2012 election year before us? Many, I believe, are keeping their powder dry. Many are watching the flavor of the month and keeping their ideas to themselves. As the candidates and their surrogates attempt to force
decisions, the pro-life voting public is waiting; waiting to see who will be their champion. They know that the lives of millions depend on a real champion who understands what is at stake for the nation and the world.

During this holy season, we all need to pray for that champion of life.

"Batman" Christian Bale's visit to Chinese Human Rights Activist spotlights Chinese forced abortion policy

Christian Bale, the actor who played Batman was roughed up on Thursday in China after attempting to visit the blind Chinese Human Rights activist Chen Guangcheng, who has been under house arrest for exposing the latest in Chinese atrocities concerning its forced abortion policy in 200. The self taught lawyer has been a strong voice defending the rights of women and children in China. His actions have been a source of tension between the government and human rights activists. Chen Guangcheng exposed the fact that there were 130,000 forced abortions and involuntary sterilizations in Linyi County in 2005. The Chinese Communist Party imprisoned Chen for four years and three months and has kept him and his family under strict house arrest since September, 2010. On February 9, 2011 Chen released a video describing the deplorable conditions of his house arrest. The next morning, Chen and his wife, Yuan Weijing, were “beaten senseless.”

Bale, in China making a movie called The Flowers of War, heard about Chen and decided that he should make the eight hour journey to tell him how his actions inspired so many.

Chinese authorities are in a bit of a quandary since the movie Bale stars in, was made with Chinese government support.

This latest story out of China reminds us that abortion is an internationally destructive phenomenon, causing death and destruction to all involved and everywhere it is practiced. Late term forced abortions are common in China. The violations of human rights and the Chinese one-child policy initially exposed by Steven Mosher in the early 1980s have largely been ignored by the West as it continues to curry favor with the growing Chinese influence in the world. But the tensions that a massive population imbalance can bring are only too real to those who study such matters. Many of the current problems in Europe can be traced to the declining populations in Western European nations. We in the United States need to remember that the greatest natural resource a nation has is its people.

Yet how are we to take a moral stand against such atrocities and human rights abuses when we in the United States kill over 3000 children a day?

How can we complain about what the Chinese government does when our own administration promotes abortion on demand and supports abortion profiteers such as Planned Parenthood?

Action item: Does your congressman or senator know of China's human rights abuses and its one-child policy that includes forced abortions? Perhaps you should make your representative aware of this ongoing atrocity.

HHS backs off on FDA approval of morning after pill

Perhaps the Obama Administration is aware that some things actually cross the line - and can have very serious consequences come November. That is how some observers are explaining the White House's decision through HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius to leave in place a requirement that women younger than 17 get a prescription for the Plan B contraceptive. You will recall the previous fight last year over the drug, which proponents call safe and opponents question. The politically charged decision by the FDA, which has previously allowed RU-486 on the open market, despite the rising death toll from that drug, was vetoed by Sebelius yesterday.

Pro-abortion forces were "left speechless" by the decision.

So now many are asking why?

After reading Jill's column, here is another thought. There is probably a clear money trail between the companies who would most benefit from the drug being out in the open market and the Obama re-election campaign. If that information was revealed, it would further damage the administration whose ties to the rich and powerful have been contained thus far by the very friendly media. But with the hearings on Planned Parenthood on the horizon, the nation still in the throes of the "Great Recession," and the so called "Occupy" movement turning its attention on Obama and those money connections, smart people close to Sebelius said that this little social experiment can wait. Lefty Catholics will try to claim some influence in order to try to sell the most pro-abortion president in history, but my guess is that there is a money connection. All of the other theories probably made it an easy sell to Sebelius who never saw an abortion plan she did not like..

Gingrich clarifies, reiterates, and cleans up.

Thankfully it did not take long for Newt Gingrich to address the major faux pas he made the other day and to do so without letting a whole lot of time pass. His statement, put on his website, states that he believes life begins at conception.

So of course there will be some who will ask why the comments on implantation in the first place. I cannot speak for Gingrich but it is possible that his professorial mode took over and he got caught up in discussing details on a subject that was more complicated than he understood. Or maybe he was being cute? Or maybe he wanted to avoid talking about the Personhood of the human zygote. Who knows?

What is important is that he as well as every candidate recognize the importance of the pro-life vote. All of the candidates need to realize that unless they understand and embrace a philosophy that respects the dignity of the human person, we will never get our country out of the mess it is in. Fixing our country's economic problems begins with respecting the nation's greatest natural resource - her people. Appreciating the value of the worker, the importance of culture not consumerism, and the purpose for which man was created, all of these ideas are part of our founding principles as a nation. They are a reflection of the greatness that was Western Civilization. Passing this gift to our children is critical to the nation's well being and to the stability of the world economy.

Considering that the current occupant of the white House has no respect for the dignity of the human person when one as ks to include the unborn child, it is imperative that we citizens vote to remove him as president by electing someone who will honor the sanctity of all human life by supporting any an all legislation that will protect all persons born and unborn..

This Time Gingrich Steps in It - Handling the Life issue

The latest buzz circulating in the news and on the Internet is Newt Gingrich's interview with Jake Tapper and Gingrich's comments on when human life begins. Apparently Newt has forgotten his high school biology class lessons and the scientific definition of when and human life has his or her beginning. People will use the word "conception" to describe the formation of a zygote by the union of a make sperm and female ovum or the "beginning" of a human life. There is nothing ideological in such a description and it is very odd for Newt to so contend. In science the so-called "fertilized egg" term in reality is the human zygote or new human being.

So Newt really stepped in it this time. He fudges on the time line and implies that addressing the reality would make it difficult to consider other matters. Those in the now discredited area of embryonic stem cell research had long since tried to manipulate language to "create" terms to describe the human being at those first moments of life as "pre-human." It was a farce and everyone knew it. Now we have a throw back to such terms from someone who should know better.

In addition to his errors on fertilization and implantation, Newt also gets it wrong regarding stem cell research. One does not obtain embryonic stem cells from the placenta. One obtains adult stem cells from the placenta, cord and blood. One only obtains embryonic stem cells from embryos and in order to obtain them, one must destroy the embryo.

In addition, as Ramesh Ponnuru points out, “Gingrich may have forgotten where he stood, but he did in fact back embryo-destructive stem-cell research in 2001.”

Jill Stanek makes a good point.

Of all the Republican presidential candidates, Rick Santorum has the best record on the Life issue and is the most articulate.

All of this reminds us that the pro-life issue is still a very critical issue in the Republican primary, that pro-life voters should demand clarity in explaining their positions, that simply saying one is "pro-life" is not enough, that explaining why one is pro-life is important. As for the flip-floppers like Romney, simply stating that he was always personally pro-life while espousing a very hard pro-choice line, demands that he condemn his past confusion and duplicity, ask forgiveness for his past transgressions and actively prove his conversion.

We in the pro-life movement have always welcomed converts. But sincerity is required. We in the pro-life movement have been misled by too many over the years. Promises have been made by politicians who had no intention of following through. The powers in Washington think very little of the movement as a whole and the mainstream media even less. Those who hold the pro-life view as a threshold issue must be firm in holding those politicians who seek their vote to the test. For someone as wealthy as Mitt Romney, what percentage of his wealth has been used to make amends of the years of his "pro-choice" heresy? What has he done as a man to tell people how terrible abortion is and how it harms women, children and families? Where were these people now running for office when we needed their voices to stand up for life?

And Newt, when you were Speaker of the House, why did you not advance the pro-life agenda? Why did we have to beg for scraps? Why did the Caucus not cut out Planned Parenthood funding then - when the Republicans controlled both houses?

Now is the time for clarity. The current occupant of the White House is the most pro-abortion president in our nation's history. His actions have damaged the family and the country. Whoever succeeds him must have the welfare of the human person and respect for human life as his or her first priority. Such a philosophy will affect all policies foreign and domestic. It is the least we can ask from someone seeking to be president. Defend all innocent human life.

Planned Parenthood - Media approved pedophiles

The mainstream media has been having a field day with the tragic news from Penn State about allegations of child abuse involving a long time coach and the subsequent cover-up of the alleged criminal activities. The press has also been talking a whole lot about allegations of sexual harassment by presidential candidate Herman Cain, taking anonymous complaints and giving them front page treatment.

Now both stories may be newsworthy in their own right. Politics is not for the faint of heart. The reaction by the public has been most interesting. The scandal at Penn State has brought down the legendary Joe Paterno because he did not act more completely when told elements of the alleged activity. The public outcry again has been predictable.

So along comes Jill Stanek who asks a very serious question - where is the media examination of Planned Parenthood at its cover-up of sexual abuse of children?

In her blog today she asks some extremely targeted questions about the code of silence in the media when it comes to Planned Parenthood and its involvement in various sex scandals over the years.

She lists in her blog examples taken from an Americans United for Life exclusive report: The Case for Investigating Planned Parenthood.

These reports do not mention the events that happened in Arizona involving Planned Parenthood. Not many people know about the 14 year old girl who was a ward of the state, living with a foster couple whose adult son impregnated the child on two occasions and took her to Planned Parenthood on both occasions for abortions. The pattern of abuse of underage children is widespread and knows no geographical boundaries. Live Action did a number of explosive stories proving that Planned Parenthood employees will lie and cover up child abuse in order to facilitate an abortion

Jill's story may be read by those of us in the pro-life community. The question is whether it will be read by congressional leaders who need to hold hearings on these predatory practices of Planned Parenthood. It is not enough that Planned Parenthood gets millions of federal dollars without any oversight as to how these tax dollars are spent. This international enterprise is covering up the exploitation of women and children while the media conveniently ignores the tales of disaster it leaves in its wake.

The media rightly asks how those in power can abuse the public trust. We must ask the media to ask themselves the same question. AS Jill reported in her blog,

And in September Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services did an end run around the State of New Hampshire to award a no-bid contract to the very same Planned Parenthood of Northern New England whose CEO 10 years before had testified it did not report suspected child abuse as mandated by law.

We must contact our elected officials and ask them to investigate Planned Parenthood. We must ask our public officials to make sure all proper reporting is being done according to the state laws. We must be vocal in our opposition of any political figure, any entertainment figure, any public figure who supports Planned Parenthood. Finally we must ask companies why they who ever consider giving money to an organization connected with child abuse.

Thankfully the use of the alternative media and social networking has allowed more information to get out to the public. Still most do not know or have not heard of the horror stories of the abortion industry. We must continue to to put pressure not only on the mainstream media but also on the so-called conservative outlets be they on radio, cable TV or on the internet. Everyone needs to be discussing how it is that a recipient of tax dollars is complicit in sex trafficking of minors, forced abortions of minors, covering up of statutory rape of minors, and the continued failure to report criminal activity. The media needs to do its job. Thank you Jill for doing yours.

Remembering our mothers and the movement they brought into being.

Recently there have been a number of articles that have discussed the new, younger, more feminine face of the Pro-Life Movement. These articles have been excellent insofar as they have presented some wonderfully competent leaders within the Pro-Life Movement such as Marjorie Dannenfelser, Charlene Yoest, Kristan Hawkins to name a few.

It is however interesting how these articles need to create a fiction that somehow there were no women in leadership in the 70s,80s or 90s or that "those" leaders were hard hearted nd did not care about women. A recent article by Lisa Miller, published in the Washington Post, did a profile on Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List. It was sad to see how limited Miss Miller's awareness of the history of the Pro-Life Movement was when she could only refer to certain men in leadership such as Henry Hyde and Jerry Falwell, or limit women as Beverly LaHaye and Phyllis Schlafly. While leaders in their own right, especially Phyllis Schlafley, who successfully led the fight to stop the pro-abortrion ERA, the reference does not do justice to the courageous women in pro-life leadership during the last forty years. To forget these women who blazed a trail that our current leadership travel is to ignore a very important part of the Movement. I knew these heroes, some of whom have recently passed away and others who are now in the twilight years of their life. The next generation would be wise to learn from them and draw strength and determination from their example.

I especially want to recall five very important women whose efforts in the early days of the Movement left a powerful mark on the Movement. Dr. Mildred Jefferson, M.D., who recently passed away, was the first African-American woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School. She graduated with a masters degree from Tufts College prior to being accepted at Harvard.She later became a surgeon at Boston University Medical Center and a professor of surgery at the university’s medical school. She was an incredibly gifted speaker, and one of the founders of the National Right to Life Committee. As president of National Right to Life back in the 70s, her articulate and impassioned defense of the unborn is the stuff of legend.

I met Dr. Carolyn Gerster, M.D. not in Arizona but in Boston at the National Right to Life Committe Convention in 1976. A full-time doctor of Internal Medicine, she and her husband Dr. Josef Gerster, M.D. raised five sons, and also managed to be one of the founders of Arizona Right to Life, the National Right to Life Committee, and Arizonans for Life PAC. She was president of both AZRTL and later National Right to Life Committee for three years in the early 80s. Her forty-year involvement in the Pro-Life Movement, dated back to 1971 when she helped found Arizona Right to Life, and was an example of her complete and utter dedication to the cause. A powerful speaker, advocate and debater, she challenged conventional wisdom at the time and showed the pro-abortion extremists to be concerned about power and not about protecting women. As a result of her strong, compelling witness for life, she was shunned in her profession, a profession that failed to stand up and defend the unborn. Yet her compassion and dedication saved many lives and offered real hope to women with difficult pregnancies.

Nellie Gray was a Washington D.C. lawyer who retired from her work in the government to start the March for Life Committee. Another pioneer of the early movement, she made sure everyone held true to the principles of no compromise when it came to passing laws that would someday protect all human beings, born and unborn. The March for Life is the oldest longest continuing civil rights march in the history of the United States. Since 1974, pro-lifers have gathered in January to protest the Roe v. Wade decision. Still tough, still running the show, she is an example of someone who has "true girt."

Erma Craven, a Minnesota social worker back in the 70s and 80s, was one of the leading African-American women regarding the right to life of the unborn and the protection of women. She was another great leader who articulated a compassion not only for the unborn but for women who were being exploited by abortion.

Barbara Wilkie, the wife of Dr. Jack Wilkie, was a nurse, an educator, and a speaker on human sexuality. Together with her husband, they were an incredible team presenting a view on the dignity and sanctity of human life that we can only regret people do not follow. They started Cincinnati Right to Life, Ohio Right to Life and were founders of the NRLC.

Other strong women who were leaders in the Movement back in the 70s and 80s included Ellen McCormick, who actually ran for President as a Democrat, Anne O'Donnell of Missouri, Jean Doyle of Florida and Fran Driscoll of California.

These were women who set the stage for this next generation of leadership. These were women who like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton, and Alice Paul, called our nation to respect both the mother and her child, to protect both the mother and the child, and to pass laws that would guard the dignity of every human person.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with these incredible people. I know how proud they are or would be of the current efforts of this next generation of women in leadership. These women as their mothers before them recognize that the dignity of women is respected by protecting the children and the bond between mother and child and not creating conflict between them. The present day pro-life movement stands on the shoulders of these gritty, self sacrificing women. It is only right that the media acknowledge their contributions as well.

Planned Parenthood's outrageous statement

You will want to read this twice and then think about what he just said.

“It means that 400 real children at the end of those pregnancies are going to be born into families that may have, at very realistic levels, said that, ‘We can't afford another mouth to feed,' or ‘I can't afford child care,' ‘' Howard said.

Brian Howard is the president of Planned Parenthood of Arizona, the number one killer of children in this state. He made his remarks in light of the release of new numbers showing a significant decrease in abortions since the informed consent laws went into effect last month. These numbers released by the Department of Health Services show that there were 729 reported abortions in the state, down from the 1069 the month before and much less than the average rate of 1200 per month from last year.

Yet it is also worth noting that Planned Parenthood claims to have done 90% of the abortions reported.

So read the quote again. These people have a blood lust. They want these "real children" to be "dead children." Howard and his ilk do not want to help these people who have difficult situations. His abortion industry thinks that killing these "400 real children" will solve the immediate problem.

Except we all know that the children are not the problem - its their parents' behavior that may be the problem. What we must do is offer real help and real answers to those with unintended pregnancies.

So please do something - pray, get involved, write a check, speak out. Now is not the time to be faint of heart. Those other 729 real children need our help.

Congress - Did you call your representative and ask him or her when Congress will schedule hearing on the financial mismanagement of federal money by Planned Parenthood? Of Planned Parenthood's failure to respond to the GAO audit requests? Of the criminal activities and investigations going on in the several states?

Obama - Did you hear how New Hampshire decided not to give Planned Parenthood $1.8 million in funding - and how the abortion giant called up their "friend" in the White House and now they are getting $1 Million. The government is broke; it can't pass its bills and Obama is giving Planned Parenthood a million dollars? What is wrong with this picture?

In Arizona Planned Parenthood decided NOT to appeal the recent Court of Appeals decision. Smart move legally and financially. Anyone with any understanding of the courts and this case in particular would have recommended that it not file an appeal. That means the laws go into effect and explains why PP closed a number of their "clinics."

Standing Up for Priests for Life and Fr. Pavone

I am never surprised when a leader in the pro-life movement suddenly finds himself or herself challenged by events that threaten to distract from the every day efforts to save lives. After all the enemy of life will use anything - even good actions or good people - to delay or divert the work of rescuing those being led to death.

So part of me did not agitate as I learned that the Bishop of Amarillo had recalled Fr. Frank Pavone back to the diocese and suspended him from working with Priests for Life. I recall a problem that Fr. Pavone had with the Archbishop of New York many years ago that prompted his move to Amarillo. We all made it through that bit of confusion.

But another part of me wants to scream - especially after I read Bishop Zurek's letter which was sent to all the bishops and leaked by someone in the diocese to the press. As my children would say - not cool.

Fr. Frank has little "control" over the finances of Priests for Life. There is, after all, a board of directors, a bishops advisory board, an accounting department, an independent CPA firm that does an annual audit of the books.
As for these records, they were made available to the bishop and the audit is now available online. Hopefully this will answer any questions on the operations and the financial responsibilities of the organization.

The statement from Fr. Frank himself and that of his canonist also are very direct while exhibiting the rules of charity.

I will pray for this bishop that his motives are consistent with his duties as a shepherd concerned for his flock. But to be honest I have some problems with his approach. Still I will leave that for another day. Instead allow me to focus on the man I know and the organization that has helped do many to promote the Gospel of Life.

Having been in this movement for 36 years, I have seen them come and go. The naive, the glory hounds, the political, the innocent, the compassionate, the worker bees, the instigators, the saints, the leaders. And then there are the prophets: those who preach the truth in season and out, whether anyone wants to hear it. Most of the time people do not like prophets. Prophets make people feel uncomfortable in their efforts to move them off dead center.

Then there is Fr. Pavone. He is my friend, a colleague in this war to end the killing. He has a vision. He sees the big picture. He can get people enthused so they will decide to get involved. He can motivate the lethargic and excite the interested. To quote an old saw, "He can comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable." God has called him to this work and he has made the most of it. His efforts have saved lives and inspired men and women throughout the world to stand in defense of the weak, the marginalized, the unborn, the elderly, the dependent.

One of his gifts is the ability to move throughout the movement and help all sorts of different groups. Indeed this is a gift of Priests for Life as an organization. Whatever the group, whatever the immediate situation, PFL will help in whatever way it can. In all my years of working with PFL, not once did it charge a fee for any of the priests or associates to travel and speak. When needed, he and the other members of the Priests for Life ministry team, make themselves available. PFL and Fr. Pavone have always been there to help us get the message out to the community.

In fact there was one time when a crisis prevented him from being in Phoenix for an presentation in June. At the last minute, he arranged to have a taped DVD message so we could still have the event and inspire the membership. Then after the events that prevented his attendance, we arranged for "make-up" visit in March. He gave us not only an evening but the entire weekend. During those three days, Fr. Pavone met with pro-life leaders at the diocese, blessed 1st Way pregnancy resource center, spoke to over 200 people at a Friday Arizona Right to Life event, traveled from Phoenix to Tucson, blessed the Reachout Pregnancy Center, then spoke to 350 people at their luncheon, returned to Phoenix to speak to 400 people at the Radio Family Rosary dinner, preached at two masses at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and then before going to the airport met with the director of the Aid to Women Center at the offices where again there was prayer and a blessing.

That is the kind of guy he is. And the other members of the Priests for Life team are just as dedicated to the cause of life. It is important that someone like Fr. Frank be able to meet with the different groups and organizations. The movement is so very diverse and having someone who can move about these different organizations to support their efforts produces great fruit.

Like I said, I do not understand the Bishop's actions. I trust in the providence of God and know that He is sovereign in all things. So in His perfect will, we trust that all will work to the good for those who love the Lord. It is easy to tear down - not so easy to build up. However those of us in this movement are about building up our brothers and sisters so that we all can find the path God intends for our lives. I am sure in all of this God is working to do a great good. In the meantime we offer all our sufferings for an end to the killing of the innocents.

Time for Congress to hold hearings on Planned Parenthood

Last spring there was a hue and cry over the millions and millions of dollars being given by the Federal government to Planned Parenthood. The pro-life public sprang into action calling its representatives and demanding that no tax dollars be given to such a criminal enterprise as Planned Parenthood. Then the Republican leadership compromised on the continuing resolution, the conversation moved to the increase of the debt ceiling and ...all of sudden...no one is talking about the babies.

This current preoccupation with everything but stopping the waste must change. Now is the time to contact your representatives and ask them to call for hearings on the House side. Perhaps it should start in Judiciary or maybe more appropriately in the subcommittee the oversees the GAO. After all the GAO has been asking for Planned Parenthood to provide an audit of the federal funds Planned Parenthood has taken over the last ten years. You see the funds are still missing. The report has not been given to the GAO. Meanwhile Congress should start doing its job. We can't ask the Senate because it is run by Harry Reid. So the House will have to hold the hearings.

I wrote about this in April but nothing happened in spite of all the noise. Now is the time for the Congress to get serious and end the funding of Planned Parenthood.

Remembering 9/11 and the reality of loss.

Throughout the nation over the last week, there have been remembrances, memorials, vigils, services and events all in honor of those who lost their lies in the horrific attacks by Islamic terrorists on September 11, 2001. We recalled the sacrifices of those first responders who, knowing the risk to their own lives, nonetheless went into the burning Towers to rescue those in need. We remembered the passengers on United Flight 93 who decided they were not gong to pawns in this vicious jihad against the West and made sure that the plane was not used as a weapon to kill innocent people. We honored those who lost their lives at the Pentagon, in New York City and in the fields of Pennsylvania. And we once again promise not to forget.

Why?

Why do we remember; why do we grieve; why do we promise to honor those who died in this attack?

Then consider this sad fact. Almost 3000 people were killed on September 11, 2011.

Yet every day in America over 3000 children are killed by abortion.

Every day in America over 3000 unrepeatable human lives are extinguished by a procedure legalized 38 tears ago by the U.s. Supreme Court.

And this administration has made funding of abortion a top priority even as we all wonder how the country is going to deal with deficits and national debts.

So as we lift up our thoughts and prayers for those who suffered loss ten years ago as a result of the violence perpetrated against innocent people, let us also pray for an end to the violence that continues every day in this country against the innocent unborn children and their mothers. Let us commit to live each day respecting and protecting the gift of life. Nothing less will honor the sacrifices of those who gave their all.

A Challenge and an Opportunity

To those who listened today to the readings for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, I would suggest that the readings provide a challenge to us as well as an opportunity to advance the pro-life message.

The first reading is from Ezekiel:

Thus says the LORD:
You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel;
when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me.
If I tell the wicked, "O wicked one, you shall surely die, "
and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way,
the wicked shall die for his guilt,
but I will hold you responsible for his death.
But if you warn the wicked,
trying to turn him from his way,
and he refuses to turn from his way,
he shall die for his guilt,
but you shall save yourself.

The challenge for us is to do something. WE are not permitted to sit back and allow our fellow man to continue in their sin without us raising the warning call. This applies especially to our political officials who have a special responsibility to protect and defend the weak and defenseless. Not only do we have a duty to warn the errant politician to straighten up, but those in politics are required to do more than give lip service to the Gospel of Life. The admonition is the passage is quite clear. And in all of it, we must act in charity. We cannot approach it from any arrogance or haughtiness but from a perspective that we are duty bound to be a means of their salvation. This then requires a humility that will keep out our egos in check.

The first part of the Gospel reading from Matthew(18:15) is even more clear.

Jesus said to his disciples:
"If your brother sins against you,
go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.
If he listens to you, you have won over your brother.
If he does not listen,
take one or two others along with you,
so that 'every fact may be established
on the testimony of two or three witnesses.'
If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church.
If he refuses to listen even to the church,
then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.

In this passage, Jesus not only speaks to our duty regarding fraternal correction, he emphasizes that we cannot quit at the first refusal to consider the need for such correction. Let us apply this passage to the abortion issue or the issues surrounding the attack on marriage.

There are politicians who are baptized Catholics and especially for purposes of collecting votes will remind their constituents of that fact. However at the same time they vote contrary to the teachings of the natural law and Nature's God - not to mention the clear teachings of the Gospel and the Catholic Church. When reminded of these errors, they cry "separation of church and state" or that they are "personally opposed, but," and then complain that those challenging them are not involved in fighting capital punishment or protecting the environment. They attack the messenger as not being consistent or being a hypocrite or supporting candidates who start wars. But they never answer the question. Why are they not supporting laws that will provide protection for the unborn, their mothers and society?

These Scripture passages offer a special and unique warning to bishops as well. Every bishop who has a "Catholic" pro-abortion political in his diocese has a duty to follow this admonition for the sake of that politician's immortal soul. And if the political figure does not adhere to the admonition, the bishop has no choice but to "cut him off from the body." In this 'politically correct" world, and given the recent public sins of church officials, many are afraid to act. But to what end? If we truly care about the souls of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, we must make it clear that their public ridicule of church teaching forces the Church to act for the sake of their immortal souls. And that also goes for the politicians that forsake the sacred nature of marriage and all that implies.

Now is not the time for the faint of heart Indeed, we are called to be "light" to the world, and "salt" to the earth. If we who are suppose to know better do not act to protect and defend the truth,then who shall stand against the evil that abounds. It is not enough that we go about doing good. We must also confront evil ideas as well as those people who would scandalize the innocent. To that extent we must consider these words of the Old Testament prophet;

You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel;
when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me.

Thus says the Lord.
Now what are you going to do?

Planned Parenthood of Arizona to stop performing Abortions at Seven clinics throughout State - cites recent Court of Appeals Decision

As reported throughout the news yesterday, Planned Parenthood of Arizona has decided to stop performing abortions at seven of its clinics in the state after a Court of Appeals decision that struck down a lower court order staying enforcement of the 2009 Arizona Abortion Consent Act that provided certain safety standards for women.

The measures upheld by the Court of Appeals require the abortion facility to give women seeking an abortion an informed consent consultation with the physician performing the abortion 24 hours prior to the procedure. The law requires minors to provide notarized parental consent before getting an abortion. The statute protects pharmacists and other health-care professionals if they refuse to provide emergency contraception on religious or moral grounds. Finally the law, in response to an outrageous attempt by the Board of Nursing to expand the nurse practitioner’s ability to perform surgical procedures, limits the provision of surgical abortions to only physicians.

Reaction throughout the pro-life community both locally and nationwide has been swift.

Our friends over at the Center for Arizona Policy had this to say on Cathi Herrod’s blog:

Planned Parenthood has chosen to end their services rather than raise the standard of care they provide women to be at the same level as all other medical care in the state. For years, life advocates at the legislature have been saying that Arizona women deserve better than the substandard care Planned Parenthood provides.
The fact that Planned Parenthood can’t find doctors to work at their clinics is telling. Caring health care professionals, particularly doctors, don’t want to be a part of an industry that harms women and takes the lives of pre-born children.

Ron Johnson of the Arizona Catholic Conference also commented on the decision in an email to LifeNews.

“We are very grateful that the Court of Appeals has reversed the trial court ruling and upheld provisions drafted by the Arizona Catholic Conference with respect to rights of conscience for all healthcare providers, including pharmacists,” he said. “This litigation is not over and there remains a possibility that the case could be appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court. Nonetheless, the ACC is most grateful to the legislative sponsors of this legislation (Linda Gray and Nancy Barto) as well as to former Speaker Kirk Adams and current Speaker Andy Tobin for intervening in this case and Governor Brewer for signing this bill.”

It is because of the great work of Cathi and the Center along with Ron Johnson that the law was passed in the first place.

But you – the pro-life voter - played a very important role in helping to elect men and women who will vote for life affirming measures and call upon the health care industry to protect the rights and health of women. Until we can end this holocaust, we must continue our efforts using the legislature to insure that women know the real dangers of the both the surgical and medical abortion procedures, be those dangers physical or mental.

Around the country pro-life leaders had this to say:

"Today, the women of Arizona are a little safer because of new laws that force abortion clinics to stop cutting corners on women's health and safety," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We predict a dramatic decline in the number of abortions in Arizona in the coming years since there will be fewer locations marketing abortions to women."

"Planned Parenthood can no longer exploit vulnerable women by subjecting them to dangerous abortions done by non-physicians. They have chosen to stop their now illegal abortion operations, rather than bring their abortion businesses into compliance, and that is a huge victory for women and their pre-born babies that this law was enacted to protect."

Abortions will no longer be available at Planned Parenthood clinics in Prescott Valley, Flagstaff, Yuma, Goodyear, northeast Phoenix, and Chandler locations where non-physicians had been doing abortions by administering abortion pills.

Planned Parenthood will continue doing abortions at their clinics in Glendale, Tempe, and Tuscon.

This year many states have passed laws addressing abortion clinic safety standards. In Kansas, a law that would make abortion clinics operate at the same standards as other medical clinics is currently being challenged in Federal Court by two abortion clinics that refuse to meet the new standards. In light of the Arizona ruling, hopefully their challenge is less likely to succeed.

In Texas, Planned Parenthood announced it will close seven abortion referral clinics by the end of September as a result of the state stopping the flow of tax dollars to the largest provider of abortion services in the country.

"Pro-life legislation such as the Arizona and Texas laws are effective at stopping abortion and saving lives today, while we work towards the future when the antiquated and barbaric practice of abortion is tossed in the trash heap of history where it belongs," said Newman. "With the vast resources now available to assist pregnant women, abortion is an unnecessary and uncivilized act with no place in the modern world. The majority of Americans believe that, and now we are seeing our laws reflect it."

We appreciate the work of the Alliance Defense Fund whose attorneys throughout the nation are helping pro-life organizations to successfully defend pro-life legislation. steve Aiden pointed out the total hypocrisy of Planned Parenthood's position.

“If Planned Parenthood truly cared about what’s best for women, they wouldn’t be repeatedly going to court around the nation to stop laws that allow women to make fully informed choices,” said Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Steven H. Aden, who argued before the Court of Appeals on June 14. “The court ruled rightly in this case in rejecting the arguments of the nation’s largest purveyor of abortion. The protection of women is not unconstitutional.”

Arizona Court of Appeals upholds Pro-life laws

We hold that the statutes affected by the preliminary
injunction are constitutional, and we therefore vacate the
injunction in its entirety.

It is always nice to read an intelligent opinion written by jurists when discussing the issue of abortion and abortion legislation. So many times over the last 30 years, I have read an opinion only to shake my head and recall what has become known as the "abortion distortion." a condition suffered by judges and lawyers when attempting to use logic in considering abortion laws.

The Arizona Court of Appeals suffers from no such delusion. Its opinion lifting the injunction against the 2009 laws passed by the Arizona Legislature was lucid, logical and balanced. It examined the laws passed and determined that the legislature has the right to pas reasonably tailored laws to protect patients' lives, to protect parents' rights, to insure compliance with rights of conscience and to prevent patients' from being at additional risk to unscrupulous abortionists.

In light of the recent reports in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Texas, Indiana, and Maryland, the efforts by the Arizona Legislature to provide safeguards and protection to women should be applauded. Instead Planned Parenthood, as is its history, filed suit to stop enforcement of the law. A retired superior court judge was called up to hear the case. Ignoring all the rational reasons for the legislation, he enjoined it as unconstitutional.

The Arizona Abortion Consent Act prohibits non-physicians from performing surgical abortions. The Act provides for women to receive full and accurate information at least 24 hours before an abortion. Further the law protects health care workers who object to performing or facilitating abortions. It strengthens the parental consent law by requiring notarized parental consent for minors seeking abortions. The law also makes sure that women receive appropriate information regarding abortion alternatives, the long-term medical risks of abortion, and the probable gestational age of the unborn child prior to having the abortion.

Governor Jan Brewer released this statement:

“This is a great day for Arizona women and parents.The 2009 Abortion Consent Act empowers women by giving them the objective information they need prior to deciding whether to have an abortion. Women deserve all the facts from their physician, in-person, before making such a critical decision. Today’s court decision will help guarantee that.

“The Act also empowers parents by strengthening Arizona’s parental consent laws. Now, in most cases, any minor seeking an abortion must first obtain a notarized statement of parental consent. Effective parental consent is a fundamental principle that Arizonans on both sides of the abortion debate can support. Today’s ruling will also protect women’s health and safety by requiring that surgical abortions be performed by a physician.

“These are common sense regulations that will help protect Arizona families, and
I’m thrilled the Court has allowed the law to take effect as intended.”

The Court of Appeals decision thus returns the case to the lower court for disposition. There are some who expect the matter to be further litigated or appealed. There is also the most recent lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood against the current group of laws just passed by the Legislature. But with yesterday's ruling, the current attack on these regulatory laws may not go anywhere. The Court was clear that on these facial challenges, Planned Parenthood has an uphill battle.

Using history to advance the cause

Understanding the history of a subject is critical if one is to effectively respond to it. There are various books written about the history of abortion. Marvin Olasky's Abortion Rites: A Social History of Abortion in America is an excellent book that seriously examines the history of abortion in the U.s.

There are also various web sites and blogs that do so as well. I recommend Real Choice by Christina Dunigan for your consideration. Her latest entry reminds us that simply because the abortion industry "claims" to be competent does not make it so.

Abortion has been used as a tool of oppression throughout history. This generation needs to stop this evil and restore the law so that all human beings are protected.

The New York Times Continued Hatred of all things Pro-Life

In the July 9, 2011 edition of the New york Times, A.G. Sulzberger writes another puff piece on another abortionist. This time the subject of the sympathetic article is Mila Means, a "struggling" "physician" who is trying to capitalize on the death of the notorious abortionist George Tiller in the battleground city of Wichita, Kansas.

The Times is well known for its abortion favorable reporting and its avoidance of all things truthful when it comes to presenting the pro-life position.

Years ago the Times wrote a glowing article on convicted abortionist Brian Finkel of Phoenix. In that article the reporter lamented all of the struggles the gun toting abortionist had to face because of the law suits filed against him for medical malpractice. Of course it would be Finkel's sexual assaults on his patients that would eventually land him on state prison. However the Times never reported the convictions or later the failure of his appeals and only mentioned the arrests in a small note in 2002.

We have been reminded of the silence of the media as to the dark side of the abortion industry this past year with the horrific events in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Tennessee, Kansas, and Texas. And these locations just scratch the surface.

Add to the mix the illegal operations of Planned parenthood and there is much serious investigative work for the national press to do. But unfortunately, the press is more interested in the emails of Sarah Palin and the gyrations of celebrity types than serious journalism.

The demise of modern journalism is rooted in the failure to embrace objective truth. Relativism offers an alluring temptation to compromise the truth and facts in favor of advancing one's ideological agenda. The ultimate danger is that when one is so encumbered by a perceived reality, it is almost impossible to find one's way out of the morass.

But having taken a moment to post some important updates, and the interest of passing on some very good comments written by some dear friends, here are a few random - and not so random - stories for you to read.

From the pen of Matt Bowman over at CatholicVote, an article addressing the Obama apologists who are attempting to sell him once again to Catholics. Ignore the sound of HHS threatening the State of Indiana for daring to stop funding Planned Parenthood. Obama is a friend to all those who expect a "get out of jail card" free.

From our favorite professor at Boston College (maybe the only one we like) Peter Kreeft, a reminder of who the real enemy is in this world.

And finally some good news from Troy Newman at Operation Rescue on a great way someone used modern technology. A baby saved by the use of texting. Read about the heroes in this story.

Keeping it real - part 1

So much of the time it is easy to get so caught up in what we are doing, whether it is the organizing, the meetings, the speeches, that we forget to 'keep it real.'

Given that it happens to us all, i thought I would remind myself (and therefore anyone who reads this post) that our concern for the woman who has been involved in an abortion must be real such that we can and willing to offer her real options to deal with any post abortion grief.

One excellent way to do this practically is to know and understand Rachel's Vineyard and to be aware of the various retreats that happen both here in Arizona as well as around the nation.

In addition to the excellent counseling and holistic approach that combines an appreciation of both the pain being suffered and the importance of restoration, the program is staffed in many cases by women who have been through the healing process.

Pray for Rachel's Vineyard and the important work they do.

So close and yet so far - A CALL TO ACTION

I keep getting the feeling that our leaders in Washington just do not fully appreciate what it is all about. Even before the vote last night, i was told by various sources that we would not get de-funding of Planned Parenthood BUT that our efforts had made progress and that we could look for it in the 2012 Budget. I was told that the Democrats would not give in on this issue, that Obama would veto the continuing resolution, that this was the best we could get.

So I ask .... really?

Since when....? Why is it that the pro-life side is the one that ALWAYS has to compromise?

After all, when we compromise, babies continue to die.

Had the House leadership held firm, what would have happened? How bad would a government "slow down" have been? How long would it have lasted? And who would be responsible?

It is after all the Senate that refused to consider a budget or the continuing resolutions. It is the Democrats who never provided the Congress with a budget in the fall when they controlled BOTH houses and the presidency.

No, I am sorry but caving in is what Stupak and his cronies did. Remember how we reacted then? Maybe we in the pro-life movement should give an award for the pro-life congressman who caves in the most ...or the quickest ....or who strings us along the longest.... Or who tells us .....

Still I will not be moved to quit this battle. In fact, "I have not yet begun to fight," to quote the famous U.S. Naval Captain, John Paul Jones.

But it is another famous speech that I also recall. So I will end by quoting from the famous speech given by Winston Churchill in those dark days of 1940 when Britain seemed all alone. Fellow activists: this must be our mantra. We can never yield. We can never quit. We can never give up. We must prevail.

"I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.

At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty's Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.

The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.

Fellow activists: as I said, this must be our mantra. We can never yield. We can never quit. We can never give up. We must prevail.

We must continue to publicize Planned Parenthood's assault on women and children. No legitimate business should have anything to do with Planned Parenthood. We must publicize those politicians who refuse to take the American people seriously when it comes to funding the horror of abortion. Any politician who supports Planned Parenthood must be defeated. And we must demand that those who CLAIM to be our friends start acting that way.

I am tired of being told to sit in the back of the bus and be patient. I am tired of being told to accept the crumbs from the table. This is not a game. Human lives are at stake. They demand our complete loyalty and our best efforts.

Keep up the pressure to de-fund Planned Parenthood

Don't stop calling Congress and telling them to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Call Speaker Boehner and tell him to hang tough. Call Harry Reid and ask him why he would shut down government over Planned Parenthood.

The following comes from Live Action and SBA List.

1. President Obama and Senate Democrats are willing to shut down the federal government to ensure tax dollars keep flowing to one of their biggest political allies. During his run for president, Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsed Obama, marking only the second time in their history that they endorsed in a presidential election.[i] They poured money into his campaign and churned out volunteers. Imagine the reaction if a Republican president was willing to shutdown the government in order to prevent a single organization from sharing one penny in the belt-tightening all Americans are facing.

2. Planned Parenthood is an independently wealthy entity. According to its latest annual report, it has nearly one billion dollars in net assets.[ii] Data shows that over the last nine years, Planned Parenthood has taken in over $500 million in profits.[iii]

3. Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion provider. One out of every four abortions in the U.S. is performed in a Planned Parenthood facility. Data shows that since 1970, Planned Parenthood has performed at least 5.3 million abortions. In 2009 alone, Planned Parenthood performed a record 332,278 abortions.[iv]

4. Planned Parenthood’s business model is centered on abortion. Former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson has written that she was given an “abortion quota” and was even told by her superiors to double the number of abortions in order to bring in more revenue.[v] Abortion patients constitute 12 percent of Planned Parenthood clients — 332,000 of 3 million unduplicated clients in its most current report. 37 percent of all Planned Parenthood clinic income revenue is from abortion procedures, according to conservative estimates. Planned Parenthood has issued a directive instructing that all affiliates must have at least one clinic that performs abortion by 2013.[vi]

5. More taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood equals more abortions, fewer adoption referrals. Claims that taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood results in fewer abortions are false. From 2000 to 2009, Planned Parenthood saw an 80 percent increase in taxpayer funding, receiving $202 million in 2000 and $363 million in 2009. In 2000, Planned Parenthood performed 197,070 abortions while making 2,486 adoption referrals. In 2009, they performed 332,278 abortions and made just 977 adoption referrals. That means an 80 percent increase in taxpayer funding resulted in a 69 percent increase in the number of abortions and a 61 percent decrease in the number of adoption referrals.[vii]

6. Planned Parenthood is not safe for women and young girls. Recent undercover footage released by Lila Rose’s Live Action shows Planned Parenthood employees in several states willing to aid and abet in acknowledged human sex trafficking of girls as young as 14.[viii] The undercover footage resulted in the firing of Amy Woodruff, manager of the Central New Jersey Planned Parenthood clinic.[ix] It also caused Planned Parenthood to call for mandatory training sessions of thousands of its employees across the country on reporting requirements.[x

7. Planned Parenthood opposes commonsense measures to protect women and underage girls. Presently, Planned Parenthood is fighting a bill in Illinois that would require its staff and volunteers to be mandatory reporters when they suspect the sexual abuse of minors. They’ve also consistently fought parental notification laws – all the way to the Supreme Court – which would simply inform a parent if their underage daughter is seeking an abortion. They’ve opposed state efforts to impose health and safety regulations for abortion facilities.[xi]

8. Women have other options for seeking primary care, contraception, STI testing, and cancer screening. According to the Chiaroscuro Foundation, in addition to the tens of thousands of U.S. doctors and hospitals providing this care, there were 1,048 federally qualified health centers in the U.S. which provide women cancer screening, contraception, and STI testing.[xii]

9. Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms and is not a significant primary care provider to women. Despite claims made by Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards and members of the media, Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms. They are also not a significant primary care provider in general. In recent reports, Planned Parenthood acknowledges that it provided primary care only to about 19,700 of its 3 million unduplicated clients. These services have been trending downward for years, from 21,247 in 2007 to 20,235 in 2008, to today’s 19,796.[xiii]

10. Polling shows Americans don’t believe efforts to defund Planned Parenthood are extreme. A March 2011 poll conducted by The Hill, before Planned Parenthood became a critical issue in the budget debate, showed that Americans are virtually split in half over whether Planned Parenthood’s funding should be left alone or completely cut. Forty-six percent said it should be left alone; 42 percent said it should be completely cut. The poll has a 3 percent margin of error.[xiv] When asked specifically about taxpayer funding of abortion, polls consistently show a healthy majority of Americans, 60 to 70 percent, oppose their tax dollars funding abortion.[xv]

11. Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, was a strong believer in eugenics. Following is just a sampling of her documented beliefs. “In this matter, the example of the inferior classes, the fertility of the feeble-minded, the mentally defective, the poverty-stricken classes, should not be held up for emulation…”[xvi] Referring to immigrants and Catholics, she wrote: “[They’re] an unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all.”[xvii] She also wrote, “The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”[xviii] Planned Parenthood is carrying on her legacy today, centering itself on population control efforts. In a recently filed tax return, Planned Parenthood stated as part of their mission statement that they are committed to “a U.S. population of stable size in an optimum environment.”[xix]

12. Planned Parenthood has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours of employee time in order to protect its government handout. Planned Parenthood has flooded the airwaves with TV commercials[xx] and radio ads[xxi] in order to protect its funding. Its employees – whose paychecks are subsidized by tax dollars — have participated in bus tours and rallies across the country.[xxii]

GAO Audit Request of Planned Parenthood Still Unanswered.

Last year a story in the Washington Times explained that Planned Parenthood had continuously ignored GAO audit requests concerning millions of federal taxpayer dollars given to this national abortion provider.

Almost a year later the Times reporter filed another story asking the same question as to the whereabouts of the almost $1.3 billion dollars missing.

Each year, Planned Parenthood receives over $360 million of our tax payer dollars, and yet continues to hide rape, racism, and sex trafficking of minors. Planned Parenthood should not receive one more dime of our money.

"Public record shows Planned Parenthood does not meet federal acquisition standards;ineligible for Title X or any federal contracts."

This is the headline in a press statement released today in Washington, DC, by American Life League. Planned Parenthood fails to meet government requirements to receive federal dollars. The press statement reads as follows:

Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.203-13 (b)(2) requires that every contractor doing business with the government “shall—(i) Exercise due diligence to prevent and detect criminal conduct; and (ii) Otherwise promote an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law.” American Life League (ALL) released a new video today that they say summarizes a long, well documented public record that Planned Parenthood does not meet federal standards and therefore is ineligible for Title X or any federal contracts.

State audits revealed overbillings by Planned Parenthood in at least four states and a 2010 U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) audit raised serious questions about a $1.5 billion discrepancy between federal grants to Planned Parenthood and the funds they reported spending 2002-2008. ALL alleges those financial irregularities are part of a sustained pattern of illegal behavior and avoiding compliance with the law.

“Undercover video and audio investigations since 2002 show that Planned Parenthood employees in every state routinely tell minors to lie about their age on medical forms," said Jim Sedlak, vice president at ALL. “Just recently, undercover videos at Planned Parenthood in NY, NJ, VA, and DC caught employees advising pimps to coach 13-15 year old child prostitutes how to lie so Planned Parenthood could avoid laws meant to protect those very children from child rape and sex trafficking.”

When American Life League (ALL) tried to respond to Planned Parenthoods public relations blitz targeting lawmakers earlier this month, NBC and CBS affiliates refused to run ALL’s popular YouTube video “Planned Parenthood Bunnies.” Undeterred, this time ALL is turning directly to YouTube to launch the 30-second spot entitled “We’re Waiting."

“Like ACORN, Planned Parenthood’s powerful friends in Congress never want to look too closely. Too many others—even in this financial crisis—do not have the courage to act. Pro-life or not, cutting $362 million in contracts to $1.2 billion Planned Parenthood is not just an easy funding decision but required by federal regulations,” Sedlak concluded. “We’re waiting."

Act now to stop this wasteful spending and prevent our tax dollars from going to an international criminal terrorist organization.

Baby Joseph update 3/22/2011

Brother Paul O'Donnell talked to Moe Maraachli today and Baby Joseph is comfortable, alert, and peaceful. Today the baby's father can look at his child's face and kiss him without the tubes over his son's face. Dr. Manny Alvarez of the FOX News Network said having the ventilator in the nose or throat for this long can be painful. With the new tracheotomy, the child will be much more comfortable. Keep everyone in prayer.

Baby Joseph update

Baby Joseph received a tracheotomy today at the Franciscan hospital in St. Louis where he was transported a little over one week ago due to the international calls from pro-lifers everywhere and the emergency actions of Priests for Life.

The 14 month old baby's father Moe Maraachli, released the following statement: “Good morning all friends and family and supporters. Me and my wife we thank you so much for everything and for your praying to our baby Joseph ….today is big day for Joseph.”

Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, who was in Arizona over the weekend, had this to say.

We at Priests For Life are very grateful to you for being among the tens of thousands of pro-lifers who sent e-mails to the doctors and administrators at the Canadian hospital where Baby Joseph would have been forced to die.

This victory just goes to show that when enough good people get involved and work together, miracles happen.

We’re also extremely grateful that the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital—out of dozens of hospitals we contacted—had the intestinal fortitude to stand up to all the political pressure and say, “YES! We’ll take Baby Joseph and care for him! That’s what we do!”

Let us all continue to pray for this family and for those who helped make this all possible.

A letter from a soul crying in the wilderness

I am reprinting this letter that was sent to Jill Stanek in full. Please read it and pray for the thousands of women this one woman represents.

As I’ve read your tweets and your blog, I silently repeat, “Thank you God for this woman’s courage.”

Only one person knows my entire story and that is my current husband. I confessed to him a few years ago when I felt the Holy Spirit rising up inside me to let someone know. I had to tell someone I could trust. With abortion, it’s hard to know who you can trust. The shame is unbearable.

During a particular church service, our pastor had us take a small rock at the beginning of service and during the service he explained the rock was representative of our sin and to imagine carrying that rock everywhere we went, never letting it go. When he encouraged us to bring the rock to the stage and letting go of our sin, I put my rock in my purse. Afterward, when my husband asked why I did that, I explained I had to hold on to it to remember what I had done. I put the rock in our garden. That rock, to me, represented the abortions I had. Yes, plural. Abortions. 3.

I’m a recovering alcoholic, a former narcissist, and now a follower of Jesus Christ. I was born again 10 years ago. I’ve committed sins since that time but the sins I committed in the ’90′s will forever be etched in my heart and cause heartache until I come face to face with God.

The first time I became pregnant was by a guy who I had dated for several months. We had broken up and I found out I was pregnant. He told me I had to have an abortion because he was in college and his dad had these plans for his life and they did not include a child before marriage. We talked about this for several days and I eventually made the appointment and killed my baby.

A year later I became pregnant again and knowing I couldn’t go through what I had done the year prior, I had my daughter who is now a beautiful high school student. Her father and I had dated off and on for a couple of years and it was during one of the “on” times that I became pregnant. He told me he was scared but would be there for me. He wasn’t. Thankfully I had a supportive family and friends who were with me throughout my entire pregnancy and to this day are there for me.

A few years later, I married. During my 4-year marriage, I became pregnant twice. But both times, I was afraid my marriage wouldn’t work and he would leave me and though I could “manage” caring for one child as a single parent, I couldn’t manage having another child. At the time, it wasn’t “convenient.” So, in 4 years of marriage, I had 2 abortions. The first time, my husband took me to the clinic. The second time, I went by myself.

The last abortion had major complications. Not during the procedure, but after. The abortion doctor had not fully removed my baby, “the fetus,” and I started bleeding profusely the evening of the abortion. In a panic, my husband rushed me to the emergency room where the doctors informed me that my baby had been partially aborted, but they would need to remove the rest of the tissue that was left behind. My body, in essence, was aborting what was left of my baby. At the hospital, I felt like I was having another abortion all over again. This time I was fully aware of what I had done and promised God I would never had an abortion again and to forgive me. My marriage ended a year later.

I cry as I write this. I’m not sure why I’m sending you this message to be honest. I just want to encourage you to continue the fight of speaking out against the ones who have no voice. I suffer from depression, have had suicidal thoughts, and the guilt I feel from time to time is overwhelming. I often tell my husband it is so easy for me to forgive others because I know that God has forgiven me, but how do I forgive myself? I’ve read books on forgiving myself and they make sense. But to actually put them into practice takes work. Hard work.

If I could talk to one girl or woman who is considering abortion, I would tell them NO. Stop. The hurt of having an abortion didn’t stop when I got up from the table after the procedure. The pain continues in my heart. Nearly 20 years later, the pain of what I did to my unborn babies is, at times, overwhelming. When I look at my daughter now, I wonder what my other children would look like. Would they have her smile? Would they have her sense of humor? Would they enjoy sports and hanging out at the mall with their friends? I wonder what I would have named them. Would I have a son? Or daughters that argue over clothes and makeup? It’s been almost 18 years since I had my first abortion. 14 years since my second. 12 years since my third. I remember every detail of every one. The pain doesn’t stop. That’s why you, Jill Stanek, must continue to fight! Have courage. Speak up! Don’t stop.

Joseph Maraachli, the terminally ill baby at the center of a right-to-life controversy, has been transferred from an Canadian hospital in Ontario to a Franciscan Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri for "a second opinion," said the family's lawyer on Monday.

Fr. Frank Pavone was instrumental in effecting the transfer.

Tonight baby Joseph Maraachli was flown to St. Louis after Fr. Frank Pavone and the Priests for Life staff successfully negotiated his release from a Canadian hospital in Ontario.

As this blog is being written, the baby whose life has been the subject of intense controversy for the last month was in the intensive care unit at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis.

Bernard Nathanson - R.I.P.

Yesterday, February 21, 2011 we received word that Dr. Bernard Nathanson, M.D. had passed away after suffering these past years from cancer. Nathanson was the last surviving member of the original group that founded NARAL back in the 1960s. He was responsible along with Lawrence Lader and others with the successful efforts to legalize abortion in New York prior to Roe v. Wade. He ran the world's largest abortion mill at the time and was responsible as he later said for the deaths of over 60,000 unborn children.

While he was a pioneer in favor of abortion, he was the darling of the media. Then in 1974 he wrote an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine questioning his support for unrestricted abortion. The backlash form the media was immediate. No longer was he the respected forward thinking crusader for woman's rights. Yet the article was not a pro-life manifesto. It merely asked the question. But for Bernard Nathanson, the intellect that he was, the question continued to haunt his mind.

He next wrote the book "Aborting America" which continued to explain his ever evolving thoughts on the abortion issue.

This was later followed by his ground breaking movies, The Silent Scream and Eclipse of Reason, both which now firmly articulated the reason why abortion was morally wrong.

But it was his 1996 book "The Hand of God" that finally spoke to the real purpose of the man's life and how the mercy and love of God had brought about his redemption.

However, these books and films made no difference to his former crowd. He was shunned and ignored by the very people who thought he was so forward thinking just a short time age. Their hearts were cold. They would not even try to understand him.

As the saving power of God's love and mercy continued to enfold him, Nathanson still lived with the demons of his past. His brutal honesty forced him to consider the reality of truth and the existence of God. Soon he was received into the Catholic Church. His godmother was Joan Andrews Bell, noted pro-life activist. His confirmation sponsor was Chris Slattery, founder and director of EMC Pregnancy Centers in NYC. He was baptized by the late John Cardinal O'Connor, Archbishop of New York.

I first personally met "Bernie" as he was known to his friends (though I always referred to him directly as "Dr. Nathanson"), when I needed an expert in an medical malpractice case concerning a botched abortion in the early 1980s. We became first professionally and then personally acquainted through that experience. After that we would visit on occasion and later became friends during National Right to Life conferences. Arizona Right to Life invited him come speak at our own state conference during the promotion of the two abortion films.

But it was years later during my visits to NYC while handling either a particular legal matter or during some pro-life activity that I would see him at the 8:30 am daily mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral. We would visit for a moment after mass and I could sense the grave weight and deep grief in the man. The awareness of his past life was before him. He felt the pain and understood the healing power of God's mercy - yet as a man - he still grieved the life he had led. And so it became even more clear to me the effect of sin in a man's life and the long shadow sin casts even upon one's future days. How appropriate that Christ is called the Light of the World, for He is the Light who will banish away all of the dark shadows of our past.

Bernie has now gone to his rest. We pray for him and all those who have been snared by the evil of abortion. We pray that this horror in our land will end and for the redemption of all who have been enlisted in this evil practice. Perhaps Bernie's example will be the means of their salvation.

Arizona Medical Board restricts Phoenix Abortionist Gabrielle Goodrick's license

In further news that will not make it on television, radio or in the financially troubled Arizona Republic, local Phoenix abortionist Gabrielle Goodnick had her license to practice medicine restricted in December 2010 due to abuse of prescription medication. In an Order for Probation with License Restriction, the Board issued findings of fact and conclusions of law restricting her use of intravenous and prescription medication and putting her on probation for five years.

Goodrick has an abortion practice in Phoenix. She used to work for Planned Parenthood.

Her problems reflect the similar problems many have seen in other abortionists throughout the country. Former abortionists speak of the addictions, the personal, and emotional problems that cast a dark cloud over their lives. Tragically most abortionists fail to realize that killing babies and putting women at risk will take a toll on the soul. Simply stated such actions will kill the soul if not stopped.

Throughout the country, we are seeing the deadly impact of abortion on everyone's lives, be it the baby, the woman, the clinic worker, the abortionist, the nurse.

So who really benefits from abortion?

No one.

Pray that Goodrick and all abortionists will quit this practice of death and use their skills to be healers as they were meant to be.

Donald Trump - pro-life? Here is a challenge

I saw the story that Donald Trump says that he is pro-life. I also heard that he mentioned it on the Laura Ingraham Show. Well I am happy to know he wants to be one of us. And I welcome him to the battle. But in truth my first thought to this fellow who likes to fire people on TV as to all political multi-millionaires is - show me the money.

After all talk is cheap. Our pro-life pregnancy centers need help. Our state and local right to life offices could use some help getting organized and properly staffed. The St. Vincent de Paul and other groups that help unwed moms and their babies need real financial help. Where have these guys been to help us in the day-to-day nitty-gritty work that shows you are really pro-life.

Now don't get me wrong. I am always pleased to see someone realize the tragedy and the sadness of abortion and how it has ripped this nation apart.

But I want to end it - now. I want laws to protect women and unborn children in place - NOW. And folks with money can buy advertising time to get our message past the censorship of the mainstream media.

So as for the Donald, he should BUY an hour of prime TV time and show the nation the horror of abortion. This program should have leaders from Silent No More explain that abortion harms women. The program should show the 4G ultrasound and the pictures of the aborted babies. Then this nation can have a real conversation about what it wants her future to really look like.

If Donald Trump would do this, then he can talk about being 'pro-life."

He will also show some real guts.

Come to think about it.... There are some other folks with the money to do the same thing.

Good News out of Baltimore

The First Amendment is alive and well, at least for the time being. Such sentiments follow the U.S. District Court's ruling in the lawsuit filed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore after that city attempted to impose unconstitutional ordinances to restrict pregnancy centers from operating and offering help to women and children.
Care Net, the national network of pregnancy centers, told LifeNews.com the ruling will send a message across the country that similar legislative efforts by abortion advocates to shut down pregnancy centers cannot be upheld.
“The decision is a victory for pregnancy centers who for years have encountered hostile legislation aimed at shutting them down,” said Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde. “A victory for pregnancy centers is a victory for women facing unplanned pregnancies, women who deserve life-affirming options and abortion alternatives.”
This decision will help pro-lifers in New York City, another pace of hostility to the efforts of pregnancy centers to provide real help to women.

This year's Walk saw over 50,000 in attendance.

Filling planes, trains and automobiles, hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers traveled to the nation's capitol for the annual March for Life. The excitement and determination of the throng was especially evident as they marched from the mall to the steps of the Supreme Court building. There in front of the courthouse, members of "Silent No More" held signs which said that "We regret our abortion." Many women provided testimony of the damaging effect that the abortion had in their lives.
Earlier in the day the crowd heard from organizer and founder Nellie Gray who introduced political, religious and public figures who spoke of the need to restore legal protection for the unborn child.
The weekend prior to the March saw numerous events, including a Students for Life Conference that brought together over1700 students from across the nation. The annual mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was filled to capacity with over 10,000 participants. The next morning over 27, 000 students attended the mass at the Verizon Center.
Numerous meetings were held with representatives throughout the senate and congressional office buildings. following the march Rock for Life held a concert near the Union Station.
Pro-life leaders met throughout the weekend and discussed strategies for ending taxpayer funding of abortion giants such as Planned Parenthood. The ghastly shadows of the revelations out of Philadelphia were on everyone's mind.

The Butcher of Lancaster Ave - Abortionist Kermit Gosnell

By now some of you may have heard about the horrors that were happening over the last 20 years at 38th Street and Lancaster in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Then again unless you paid attention these last few days, you may have missed what should be the nation's number one story on the despicable practices of a human being against his fellow human beings.

What is just as bad is the revelation that state and local authorities were aware of the squalid conditions and refused to put a stop to this killer of women and children.

All one needs to do is read the Grand Jury Report to once again know why we must criminalize abortion and restore protection to the unborn child.

Tragedy in Tucson

Regardless of one's politics the terrible tragedy in Tucson yesterday reminds us of the deep and profound concern we as a society have for human life. We join in mourning the deaths of those six innocent people killed by an evil hand. We pray for the recovery of those injured and their families, including Gabrielle Giffords, Congressional representative for District 8. We condemn the horrific actions of this gunman and ache at the senseless loss of life.

On a personal note, the loss of Judge John Roll is of particular pain. Judge Roll was a fine judge and a wonderful human being. He was known to many of us both in the legal community and through his church. Prayers for his family and friends as well as for all those who lost loved ones should be high on our priority list.

At the same time we must remember why we mourn the loss of a human life. It is because all human life is sacred. No one has the right to kill an innocent human being. As our society takes a moment to reflect on this tragedy, let us commit ourselves to addressing problems in a non-violent way. Let us commit to respecting the rights of all persons and appreciating their unique presence in our world. Let us stand for the principle that violence is not the way to solve societal problems. Perhaps if we all commit to living our lives with greater respect for the dignity of all persons, the lives of those lost will remembered in a way they could appreciate.

Choosing Life - this Christmas

It seems that some people are upset about Bishop Thomas Olmsted's statements and action concerning St. Joseph's hospital in light of their refusal to recognize his moral authority to speak for the Catholic Church and her doctrine on the issue of respect for human life.

Why is anyone surprised?

Last year when the bishops spoke out against the abortion provisions of the Obama health care plan, the same folks attacked the Church and those who spoke in defense of life. The same people who defended Obama are now attacking this bishop.

Then there are those who do not understand the situation who are going to be confused by the media accounts who will question the bishop's decision.

Lets be clear. There are always two patients during a pregnancy. Each has an equal dignity as a human person to the best care and treatment possible. No one should ever set up a scenario where one would argue the "ethical" or "moral" right to kill one over the other. The only moral principle is to treat them both in the best manner possible. Is it possible in the case being discussed? Well according to a doctor in Milwaukee, it is. She has had 100% success with her patients.

So consider the irony of a nation that "celebrates" Christmas and still allows 3500 abortions a day.

Over 1 million a year.

Over 40 million since Roe v. Wade.

As you go to prat this Christmas Eve or tomorrow on Christmas day, please, please please, pray for an end to this holocaust. Please ask God for mercy on this nation and on the whole the world. Think about the manner in which God chose to show His infinite mercy and love - through the birth of His Son. A child is born unto us, a Son is given. Upon Him dominion rests. Let us realize the profound message of His coming and commit ourselves to respect all innocent human life - beginning with the unborn child.

Merry Christmas to all. May God open our eyes and give us courage to act according to His Holy will.

Telling the “Rest of the Story”

We all remember Paul Harvey and his “stories” at the end of his newscasts. He would give us listeners part of the story, go to break, and then come back with “the rest of the story.” Perhaps it is time for the media to take a page from Mr. Harvey and tell the public the truth about who is pro-life and who is “pro-choice,” in other words – the rest of the story.

For 37 plus years abortion has been legal throughout the entire United States. The press has constantly told us that being pro-life was a minority position and that the pro-choice view was dominant. Politicians, wishing to avoid addressing the issue or even worse DO something about it, would cite these so called polls and reports by the mainstream media. Pro-life advocated were told to work quietly and get out the vote, but do not make abortion an issue because it will polarize people and cost the candidate votes.

Over the last few days, pro-lifers have been told by some politicians that the social issues need to take a back seat to issues surrounding the economy. As insulting as that can seem, I am sure these politicians are simply looking at the world through the myopic lens fashioned by the liberal media along with those consultants who have never been supportive of right to life and family issues.

So let us take a look at what people really think. It may surprise you to realize that you do not have to ever apologize for your pro-life views.

In a series of polling that “the polling company™, inc./WomanTrend, Kellyanne Conway, President & CEO, did on behalf of Americans United for Life, published in May 2010, the majority of those asked gave a pro-life response. Even among those expressing a “pro-choice” view, there was a willingness to restrict abortion and not allow it under the current state as allowed by Roe v. Wade. Only 7% held the view that abortion should be permitted for any reason at any time during the woman’s pregnancy. 8% believed that abortions should allowed for any reason through six months and 26% thought it should be legal up through three months or the first trimester. Those figures total 41% of the population, and not the so called overwhelming majority trumpeted by the liberal media.

55% of those polled identified themselves as pro-life. The breakdown here is also interesting. 10% allowed for no exceptions. 16% allowed for a life of the mother exception. 29% allowed for a rape and incest exception and life of the mother exception.

So here is my message to all those who say that the pro-life message should take a back seat: Are you nuts?

Realize that the natural default position now is to be pro-life. We can thank the ultrasound machine for the current subtle change happening. We can appreciate that a lot of young people realize that there but for a ‘chance’ or ‘love’ they could have been part of that one million killed every year by the local Planned Parenthood abortionist. Focus the good news that life is a good thing to this generation and ask them to stand up and protect their little brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Tie in the natural connection between supporting sound economic practices and protecting the family. Remind people that if the family can take care of itself financially, it allows for more opportunity to build up the society through the family. Recall the famous saying by John F. Kennedy in July 1963

“Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.”

Connect the dots between the onerous anti-child policy built into our tax code and the importance of raising the next generation to have generous hearts and innovative minds.
Never apologize for wanting to defend and protect women and children from those who would slaughter or harm them. Protecting life is not simply a woman’s issue. It is the duty of every adult to protect children.

As for the politicians who run from this issue and claim it is a women’s issue, they are the biggest cowards of all. Every man has a duty to protect the weak and the vulnerable.
The scandal of child abuse in organized religion and education was exacerbated by the failure of those in authority to root out the predators. Why is it that we can rightly condemn those who covered up the ongoing abuse or failed to remove those who caused it, and not fail to stop those abortionists who kill children and physically, emotionally and psychologically damage women?

We must realize that our economic and political system is based upon a generous outlook toward the future. Our reason for seeking better means of communication, transportation, innovation in science and medicine is because we care about tomorrow. But if we are so callous as to destroy our posterity, then why concern ourselves with deficit reduction, and balanced budgets? Why care? The Left doesn’t. Perhaps they understand that their agenda will bring about the destruction of this society as we know it and therefore the future.

We in the pro-life movement also have the tools to reach out to women who have been harmed by abortion, to offer them compassion and understanding, and a road to reconciliation and peace.

In the meantime, we should not apologize for being pro-life. We should embrace the label, the slogan, the banner, the standard and wave it proudly. For we care about our neighbor - even the little one in the womb.

Voters in AZ CD 7 need to send Raul Grijalva packing

Perhaps this is the year that the voters in Arizona's Congressional District 7 can reclaim their seat and place an intelligent, articulate and honest person to represent their interests. The current holder of the trust is Raul Grijalva, an extreme pro-abortion advocate, supported by the National Abortion Rights Action League and Planned Parenthood. Both groups promote the destruction of innocent human life and especially children from minority groups such as Hispanic, Latino, and African-American.

Grijalva has a perfect pro-abortion voting record.

Grijalva voted NO on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions.

Grijalva voted YES on allowing human embryonic stem cell research.

Grijalva voted NO on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime.

Grijalva voted NO on banning partial-birth abortion except to save mother’s life.

Grijalva voted NO on forbidding human cloning for reproduction & medical research.

His opponent Ruth McClung is pro-life and endorsed by Arizona Right to Life.

Arizona poised to contribute to the national makeover

With new polling showing the Republican candidates for Congress in Congressional districts 1, 5, and 8 looking strong, Arizona may be showing the nation the way out of the Obama wilderness. The polling done by the American Action Forum shows Paul Gosar up 47 - 41 in Cd 1. Each of the polls surveyed 400 likely voters and had a +/- 4.9% margin of error.

Schweikert led Mitchell 50 - 46 in the CD - 5 race.

In Southern Arizona in CD - 8, Jesse Kelly was tied with his opponent. Each had the support so far of 46% of the voters. Kelly won a tough primary and is another new entry into the political scene.

And this is BEFORE Labor Day

Each of the challengers is a strong pro-life candidate who opposes Obamacare.

Look for each of these districts to join the Republican camp.

Boxer Afraid of Fiorina

It is clear from the latest actions of the Democrats that they are deathly afraid of Carly Fiorina.

It has always been the conventional wisdom from the pro-abortion view of things that when when discussing abortion, one only talks about choice, one never mentions abortion, and one paints the other side as extremist. Abortionists and the Left loved to pit the young pro-choice woman against the graying white old "anti-abortion" man and claim that he was out of touch with those important women's issues.

But with Fiorina, it is a little more difficult. Just as with Sarah Palin, the left has to focus on character assassination in order to try to score points.However they generally avoid the "A" word (abortion) because they know it does not resonate well with the American people. So they have run an ad that does just that.

So Carly Fiorina, the pro-life candidate, wants to criminalize abortion. Translation: She wants to protect women and children from being exploited and killed by abortionists like this guy. After all on July 28,2010, the California Medical Board added the charge of homicide to the number of actions that warrant revocation of Dr. Andrew Rutland's license. Rutland is an abortionist with a lengthy record of discipline by the state agency that oversees physicians.

Maybe she wants to end the long list of women killed by abortion who are routinely ignored by the media.

After all Planned Parenthood, the media and their pro-abortion politicians are responsible for the thousands of dead women - women who were killed by abortionists performing legal abortions.

So Carly, tell the people of California you believe in life, in protecting life and in defending life. You will not apologize for wanting to protect women from those who would exploit them. You believe that your fellow women deserve better.

You see the bond between a mother and her child is sacred. Most people believe that. Except those who think killing unborn babies is a "right."

Those people are out of touch and need to be retired from public life.

Federal judge enjoins Obama's destructive stem cell policy

A federal judge today enjoined the Obama Administration from going forward with a policy that involved destructive embryonic stem research. Judge Royce Lamberth granted the injunction after finding the lawsuit would likely succeed because the guidelines violated law banning the use of federal funds to destroy human embryos. In today's federal ruling, the court enjoined the Obama embryonic stem cell guidelines on the grounds that they violate an annual budget rider known as the Dickey-Wicker Amendment.

Pro-life groups from around the country applauded today's ruling.

In his opinion the judge wrote

"The Dickey-Wicker Amendment is unambiguous. It prohibits research in which a human embryo is destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subject to risk of injury or death greater than that allowed under applicable regulations. The [Obama] Guidelines violate that prohibition by allowing federal funding of ESC [embryonic stem cell] research because ESC research depends upon the destruction of a human embryo."

Experts expect the administration to appeal the ruling. In the meantime, the plaintiffs will have to present arguments in support of a permanent injunction.

The good news is that as federal district court judge actually understands the science associated with human development. In his opinion the judge explained the history of adult, embryonic, and induced pluripotent stem cells as well as the history of legislation banning the use of federal funds for research that would destroy human embryos. He then stated that the Dickey-Wicker Amendment was unambiguous and therefore the injunction should be granted.

Is it possible that any appeal of this to the higher courts could give reasonable and intelligent jurists the opportunity to correct the horrific decisions of Roe v. Wade and its progeny? Is it possible that if there is a law that prohibits the funding of research that kills human life, there should be laws to protect said lives. We can only hope and pray.

The miracle that is Melanie

Those of us in the pro-life movement will speak about every human life being a miracle of God. We say it so many times that it is easy for the meaning of the words to become lost on us or even worse to take for granted the unique gift that is every human life and what God intends for that person should he or she seek to do His will.
Our energy and focus on stopping the killing that goes on all around us and our efforts to educate our friends, neighbors and fellow citizens can be draining and often frustrating. The infighting, the failure to treat people with respect, the sometimes deliberate attacks on well meaning efforts, will drive people away and tempt them to give up the fight.

So when a crisis occurs that requires us to direct our attention toward that which is most important, it is amazing to see the hand of God at work.

Melanie Pritchard is a dynamic young woman whom I have had been privileged to work with for many years now. I watched how her passion for the right to life developed and how her enthusiasm for teaching young people to respect themselves, their lives and others infected her friends and students such that they became ambassadors for the pro-life message. I witnessed her love for Doug and how their beautiful relationship led to marriage and children. Watching her be mom was a kick. As I saw my own two daughters grow into examples of Christian women, so i saw Melanie become an example of what happens when we say yes to God.

So it was only too shocking when I received a call from Melanie's mother, Sherry, telling me of the crisis of events and that Melanie was near death after the trauma during labor and delivery.

Pray.

That was all we could do. Pass the word for everyone to pray. And so we did. And so we all did. And by the grace and mercy of God. our prayers were answered.

I saw Melanie this afternoon. She is awake, alert, making jokes, eating, sitting up and still in need of our prayers. Her heart is "tired" after all this trauma and needs to get stronger. Her surgery is still very painful. But her determination is inspiring. As the saying goes, she isn't out of the woods yet. So please pray for her and Doug and the family. Pray for her parents Jim and Sherry and for Sherry's parents who have serious health issues. Pray for the doctors and nurses who have been and are caring for her. Please give thanks to Almighty God for her life and those who were there to assist and treat her. And a special thanks to God for Melanie's brother Larry, who was able to advise and act in ways to get her the advanced medical care she needed.

But most important pray that throughout this nation we may once again value and cherish every human life as those of us who know Melanie cherish her. Think about those in your family and take a moment to reconcile any issues that are separating you from them. Forgive any grievances and ask forgiveness for any hurts you have caused along the way. Realize that God loves us through others and we in turn express the love of God when we love one another. In thanking God for His mercy in healing Melanie and bringing us all through this situation, let us use this moment to become better people; first in our homes, then in our schools, our churches, and at work. Let us recommit ourselves to defending innocent human life at all stages, at all times, in all situations. Let us be about the work that God has intended.

More State Pro-life legislation passes - this time - Louisiana

Governor Bobby Jindal signed three pro-life pieces of legislation that will add strict ultrasound requirements to the state’s informed consent laws. The first law, passed by an overwhelming margin of 79-1, will require abortion facilities to perform an ultrasound on a woman at least two hours prior to an abortion. What is important is that this must be done before she is put under any kind of anesthesia.The second bill essentially guarantees that the HHS secretary will have the same authority over abortion clinics as he has over the licensing of hospitals and their continued operation in that state. This law also passed overwhelmingly by the Louisiana State legislature gives the Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary the power to “deny, refuse, or revoke” the operating licenses of outpatient abortion facilities, when their licensed owner has violated the law. This includes “any provision of the law, any rule, or state or federal regulation pertaining to the licensing of outpatient abortion facilities.”

The third law makes the state opt out of abortion coverage called for in the health-care reform law.
Louisiana is the fourth state to adopt opt-out legislation, a provision in the health-care reform bill that allows states to decide to exclude elective abortion coverage from being offered on the state health insurance exchanges due to begin operating in 2014. The legislation has exemptions for rare cases where the mother's life is in danger from "a physical disorder, physical illness, or physical injury" including "a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself." Louisiana follows the actions of Arizona, Mississippi and Tennessee. Missouri has passed a similar bill that is awaiting the governor's review. (h/t - the Hill)

Obama Recess Appointment Favors "Rationing"

Barak Obama's recess appointment to become the director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the office that oversees government health care programs, has stirred criticism not only from Republican leaders but from Democrat Senators as well. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) on Wednesday blasted the Obama administration for sidestepping Congress, stating, "Senate confirmation of presidential appointees is an essential process prescribed by the Constitution that serves as a check on executive power and protects Montanans and all Americans by ensuring that crucial questions are asked of the nominee — and answered.,"

Calling the nominee an "expert on rationing," Republicans are denouncing the president's actions. Pro-life leaders also condemned the nomination when initially announced in May. In the May 27, 2010 Life News, it was reported that Wesley J. Smith, opposes Berwick. Berwick is an outspoken admirer of the British National Health Service and its rationing arm, the National Institute for Clinical Effectiveness (NICE). Smith has frequently condemned this approach to health care.

Jake Tapper of ABC NEWS reports of an interview last year with Biotechnology Healthcare, where Berwick said society makes decisions about rationing all the time, and that the "decision is not whether or not we will ration care -- the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open. And right now, we are doing it blindly."

Berwick has been quoted as saying that "the one thing the NHS is good at is saving money. After all, it is far cheaper to let the sick die than to provide care."

Pro-life advocates, including Sarah Palin, have condemned ObamaCare as being a tool to introduce rationing in to mainstream medical care management. While criticized roundly for speaking about "death panels," it would appear that Palin and other pro-life activists are right.

It would seem that the way this administration is going to deal with the social security and medicare problem is to ration care and eliminate the elderly and those dependent on receiving medical care for survival or longevity.

Only the outright repeal of ObamaCare will allow for protection of those medically dependent and disabled as well as the elderly. Find out for yourself if both of your Senators and your House Representative support the repeal of ObamaCare.

Kathleen Parker misses the boat in latest article

I have to laugh when I read articles and hear everyone try to out "feminist" one another. The original feminists - the suffragettes - Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul and their sisters - were all vehement anti-abortionists. They called abortion - child murder. Don't believe me? Look it up.

Then along came Gloria Steinem and Bella Abzug, and Betty Friedan, with their revised definition of feminism,which incorporated killing unborn babies - both boys and girls. Of course Playboy and the hedonists were all to glad to financially support Steinem and NOW because it played right into the irresponsible sexually immature male mind.

Throw in a U.S. Supreme Court that ignores both the law protecting the rights of unborn children and the medical evidence on the development of human life and presto - 50,000,000 dead babies, a society falling apart and stupid articles arguing over the term "feminist."

Meanwhile Kathleen Parker, who years ago seemed to have her head screwed on straight, makes a fool of herself in her latest article. She starts out normal enough asking questions about articles questioning Sarah Palin's "right" to use the "feminist" label. But later on in her article, she veers off the dock when she opposes the reversal of Roe v. Wade, one of the most poorly reasoned legal opinions of all time.

So I wrote to her:

Kathleen, having written to you in the past and discussed with you certain legal arguments re abortion, I am most disappointed to think that you would not want laws to protect children at the federal level.I will keep the comment simple - frame it from a philosophical angle.

The law does not permit people to kill innocent people - period.

We protect innocent people. - the purpose of law.
If we do not protect innocent unborn children, could we not "change" the law to allow another type or group of people - such as "45 year old and older white women who write for newspapers in the south" to be without protection? because you pose a burden to those those want you gone?

Silly, you say.

Well it happened in 1973 when the court STRIPPED away from the unborn the right to legal protection.
Mark my words. If we do not soon restore protection to these little ones, the next generation that grows up without the sense that the law applies to all, will move to eliminate the elderly rather than pay for their care.....

What is it about protecting the individual right to life that some people find offensive?

After all, it is in the Constitution.

It is right there in the Declaration of Independence.

Well, the good news is that we in the pro-life movement are not going away. We are in the fight until the law prevails. Because right now the law is not sovereign in this land. It is controlled by despots in black robes who dictate what the populace can and cannot do with our most cherished freedoms. And we have Congress that in so corrupt as to be only concerned with its next infusion of tax dollars. If ever there was a time to stand up against this tyranny, it is now. So get involved. Make a difference. Save a life. It may be your own.

Time to defund Planned Parenthood now

Planned Parenthood has been one of the most destructive operations ever to gain a foothold in this country. Independent of their private sources of funding, PP has been sucking hundreds of millions of dollars from the taxpayers. Those of us in the Pro-life movement have long argued that the government should not be giving tax dollars to an organization that kills children. Now a new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on federal tax money funneled into Planned Parenthood and similar organizations raises more questions than it answers about the nation's largest abortion chain.

Seems that even though Planned Parenthood reports spending 657.1 million dollars from government grants and programs between 2002 and 2008, their own reports show it taking in over 2.3 BILLION dollars from the government for the same time period.

Now is a perfect time for the government to end funding of a this criminal racist organization.

Another Arizona Abortionist Accused of Sexually Abusing Women

Dr. Galen Johnson, an obstetrician/gynecologist, who worked at the Estrella Women's Health Center, a West Valley clinic that performs abortions, was arrested June 14, 2010 stemming from an incident in May when police say he assaulted and sexually abused a 28-year-old patient. According to court documents obtained by a local newspaper, Johnson assaulted a patient by grabbing her and making inappropriate comments. This is not the first time this type of behavior occurred according to press accounts. However the administrators of the clinic informed the press that Johnson had resigned and was closing his practice. The Arizona State Medical Board has issued an Interim Order suspending his license

Johnson was known to have done abortions years ago at another west side location with a notorious abortionist from the Valley , who had his own set of problems.

This story hearkens back to the news events surrounding Brian Finkel, a nationally known abortionist, who was charged and later convicted of sexually abusing scores of patients. He is currently serving 33 years in state prison and will not be eligible for parole for 20 years.

Is there a connection between the abortion mentality that permits the deliberate destruction of a human being and the propensity to abuse women who are vulnerable when in the care of a doctor?

Once again the women and children are the victims in a society that cares little to stop the slaughter.

Obama's choice - Elena Kagan - no friend to Unborn children

President Obama's nomination of Elena Kagan to the U.S. supreme Court is another reminder of the consequence of the nation having elected the most pro-abortion president in history. His selection is someone who reflects his radical views especially on abortion and homosexuality presents the Senate with a unique opportunity to ask serious questions of someone who has absolutely no judicial experience and who history as a lawyer has been one of a political appointee and recipient of political connections. She has never practiced law and yet she was appointed by Obama as his solicitor general. The instant irony is that various bastions of the Left have been the first to point out her lack of qualifications.

But do not be misdirected by the serious questions raised by such articles. Her placement on the court will be a means of advancing the leftist agenda and affecting the rule of law for generations.

Expect to see and read various liberal groups to "question" her qualifications. Some will be in earnest; others will be merely puffing in order to make her "appear" to be less than the radical she truly is. The headlines have already tried to paint her as a "moderate" and raised her "advice" to Clinton regarding the partial birth abortion bill being evidence of such "moderation." The truth is her advice was an effort to salvage Clinton's position with the Congress which was set to override any veto of the bill. But being willing to support a ban on partial birth abortion does not make one anti-abortion. It is no guarantee that Kagan would should a change in Roe. All one has to do is look as where she has been the dean of law.

As one who has a deep appreciation of the rule of law and a desire to see the rule of law applied equally to all persons, I am always amazed at the willingness of the left to jettison any respect for the law if someone of their ideology can be placed in a position of power. The left was so very critical of the qualifications of someone such as Justice Thomas or Alito, yet they will ignore these very same arguments when it comes to their own candidate. again it is not about the rule of law. It is about using power to manipulate the law to achieve social transformation.

When it comes to efforts by the left to transform society, the classic model has been their effort to normalize sexual perversion. Behavior that was once universally condemned as abhorrent, is now argued as a right and the some courts have even attempted to normalize such behavior and compare it to marriage. Radicals such as Kagan support such decisions by these courts. Her decisions at Harvard regarding the efforts of the Military to recruit for JAG officers further underscore her disdain for the rule of law. Thus it is that in order to try and avoid these discussions, the press will try to paint her as "foremost legal mind," a moderate, a consensus builder. The press and the media will avoid the subject of abortion, except to claim that she is a "moderate on the issue, something totally untrue.

So what is to be done? After all the Democrats control the Senate.

Those who are honest in their examination, whether conservative in their approach toward the law or liberal, must admit that she has very little experience to bring to the court other than an academic perspective. She has no real world experience as a lawyer. She has never tried a case. She is totally unqualified to sit on the bench and render decisions about matters of which she knows nothing. In that respect this nomination is similar to Harriet Miers, who had no judicial experience and was opposed by conservatives and others because of such history. Is Kagan any different? Is Kagan nothing more than an extension of Barack Obama?

Hopefully those Republican senators who are pro-lie will ask some basic questions. Questions on used to be asked in high school biology; questions that are not above her pay grade. Questions such as

Do you agree with the scientific and medical evidence that recognizes the humanity of a living unborn child?

If not, can you provide any credible evidence to support your position that the child is the womb is not a human being?

Does the government have the right not to offer women abortion services as a part of nay health care provision?

Does the government have a right NOT to pay for or subsidize abortion?

Do parents have a right to know and then provide consent prior to an abortion if their under age daughter is pregnant and considering abortion?

Should pharmacists and other in the medical profession be required to provide services to which they are morally opposed?

These are just a few questions being asked at present. Other major pro-life groups are doing the same.. If you have any thoughts or questions that you think should be asked, write them in the comments section.

Does Stupak think we are stupid?

It is clear that the tensions between Bart Stupak and the pro-life community are growing following what could only be called a caving in of the principles championed by Stupak since the health care debate started last year. Those principles began with a position that the Hyde Amendment language needed to be a part of any health care package. Holding out in November when Pelosi forced the House to remain up until the Thanksgiving break, Stupak forced the Democrat leadership to include a vote for the Hyde Amendment. While in my opinion there were still pro-life problems with the bill, Stupak was nevertheless credited with a critical victory.

Now many at the time called the whole thing a ruse and argued that Stupak would eventually accede to leadership. Those in pro-life leadership, including myself, believed that we had to support the efforts of a pro-life Democrats who were holding the line on the prohibition of federal funding. then came the Nelson sell off and the beginning of the deceptions that would ripple through the pro-life community culminating with Stupak's so-called deal that gave Pelosi the votes she needed to pass the bill. Now that Obama has signed the Executive order, Stupak is blasting the bishops and other pro-life leaders calling them hypocrites.

I read his reasoning and found it laughable as he compared President Bush's use of the executive order to tighten any use of embryonic stem cells after Bush vetoed the bill Congress sent him expanding ESCR. Bush vetoed the congressional bill. He did not sign it and then try to limit its effect. The comparison made no sense.
As Doug Johnson of NRLC said, “We haven’t said anything to suggest we think executive orders are never of value.” According to Johnson, the problem with Obama’s executive order, is “it basically just recites what’s in the Senate bill.”

As the Daily Caller reported

The Senate bill funnels billions of dollars outside the regular “stream” of the annual Health and Human Services appropriations bill – which is the only appropriation subject to strict anti-abortion restrictions under the Hyde Amendment – without specifying that these monies also come under Hyde-type limitations.

NRLC called the Senate bill that passed the House on Sunday “the most abortion-expansive piece of legislation ever to reach the floor of the House of Representatives,” in a letter to Stupak and other pro-life House Democrats last week, before the vote.

The Conference of Bishops, in a statement issued Tuesday, said that “the statute appropriates billions of dollars in new funding without explicitly prohibiting the use of these funds for abortion, and it provides federal subsidies for health plans covering elective abortions.”

The statement added that “we do not understand how an Executive Order, no matter how well intentioned, can substitute for statutory provisions.”

Johnson agreed, stating that while Obama’s executive order “does assert that community health centers can’t use the funds for abortion, we think that likely we be unenforceable if challenged.”

Then Stupak made the claim that Pelosi had so many votes in her pocket and that she could pass the bill without any language or agreement. Knowing Pelosi and how angry she was when forced to put the Stupak amendment to a vote in November, why would she care about Bart Stupak. If she had the votes then why was he not working on keeping or expanding his base and why would he not have been working with pro-life groups to insure either a delay or a closer inspection of the actual votes.

It would appear that the pressure has gotten to him. He betrays his position and then tells us that this was the best he could do. He would not meet with pro-life leadership during the weekend madness, but now claims the bishops are being hypocrites because they did not like being betrayed. After all of this one learns that Stupak voted to continue funding Planned Parenthood through various appropriations bills. And to make matters worse through all of this, he was negotiating with White House counsel Robert Bauer, a former lobbyist with America Votes,a liberal coalition of leftist groups including Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

Meanwhile, read what Planned Parenthood's Cecile Richards is crowing about. She is certainly happy with the idea that her killing machine is going to get millions of dollars from the tax payer.

Stupak voted against the Pence amendment to de-fund Planned Parenthood. What was that all about? He claims to be pro-life and does not know one of the greatest enemies of life, of children and of women is Planned Parenthood. This is unbelievable.

Stupak's counterattack to the criticism he received for caving in probably means that what we are saying is true. He never came to pro-lifers and told us that Pelosi had the votes without him. He kept us out of the loop and then used the tired old words I have heard so many times, "Trust us."

Not any more.

Stupak attempts to defend his vote - and fails miserably.

I just listened to a replay of Bart Stupak's lame attempt to defend his decision to abandon the principled defense of the long standing history in the Congress not to provide federal funding of abortion. as everyone knows by now, Stupak caved into the rigid and unwavering position of the speaker and the president to vote on the Senate language. Thus after six months of holding the pro-life banner, he dropped it, all the while claiming that this was the best he could do under the circumstances.

Of course he admits that the president could rescind the Executive Order that he has "promised" to sign. This is the same president who canceled the Mexico City policy with a stroke of his pen, the very week of his inauguration. This is the same president who promised Planned Parenthood that he would sign the Freedom of Choice Act. This is the same president who while telling everyone in the country that the bill would not expand or fund abortions,refused to get behind the amendment and put his political capitol on the line.

And we have not even begun to talk about the rationed care issues addressed in the bill or the rights of conscience.

Either Stupak is totally clueless or he has just scammed the entire pro-life movement.

Perhaps the Chicago style approach in Washington, D.C. is as powerful as we suspect.
After all look at the attack by MSNBC and Rachel Maddow on Stupak concerning his housing arrangements. The hit piece was a blatant attempt to threaten Stupak by suggesting that he accepted illegal gifts. Add to that the admissions by Stupak that he was being besieged by all sorts of personal attacks and that he had to leave the phone off the hook. In his last few appearances before the vote, he looked very haggard and worn. So what did Pelosi "suggest" to him? Who knows? Was there a Justice Department investigation about to be opened? Could the House Ethics Committee have a file on him? But 24 hours later, after the vote, the question of Bart Stupak's betrayal of the pro-life community, his willingness to abandon the principled stand he had taken for life concerning this bill for over six long months, and the bizarre behavior after the passage of the bill, all signal to me something a little more deceitful and unnerving. One close political analyst said, "They took him in the back room and figuratively beat the **** out of him." He also said that not only did this set back the movement for trusting someone like Stupak, but that the idea of an honest pro-life democrat is now a joke. He did say that there could be such a backlash that has never been seen in the history of the nation, but that Pelosi and Obama are banking on the American people's classic case of amnesia to get them through November.

Then again he could be as dense as they come and actually believe by doing all this, he was helping to stop abortion funding and this was the best he could do.

Right .... no .... I don't think so. I am still going with my gut that the House leadership "made him an offer he couldn't refuse."

There is one other group of people also responsible for Sunday's vote. I will address their complicity in my next post.

With the passage of this bill by the House, there is no real reform. There is only more government interference and involvement in our lives.

I laugh to myself. For 35 years I have been accused of wanting MORE government interference in the private health care decision of women - all because I wanted to end abortion. now the house has passed a bill that does interfere with people's private health care decisions and the Left is happy.

It is all about power.

It is all about control.

They oppose any exercise of real freedom. They oppose the free exercise of our liberties.

And as for Stupak, he set back efforts to create an authentic pro-life voice within the Democrat party ten years. His cowardly "dive" will cost him and the pro-life Democrats trying to make a dent into the party. Maybe not today ... but eventually.

As someone who has tried to encourage pro-life democrats to support pro-life candidates in their own primaries, I will say that I am thoroughly disgusted. My friend John Shaddegg proved to be prophetic when he warned me that these guys (Stupak et al)would cave - and that was in November. So I publicly ask as did Diogenes in Greece, Is there an honest authentic pro-life democrat who will not sell out the cause for a few scraps of bread?

Let me make it clear to the Congress. This is one man's opinion.

If you as a Congressman have considered yourself a friend to the pro-life movement and more importantly want pro-life support in the 2010 elections, you had better vote against this monstrosity when it comes for a vote.

Do not look for cover with the CHA statement as I have looked over the statement and it is rubbish, as is the letter from Network and its claims about the Senate bill.

If you therefore hold the baby to have a right to life, then to support this bill, with all its problems, makes you a hypocrite and no friend of the cause.

You remind me of the 'nobles in Braveheart who tucked their tails behind him and made deals with the enemy.

As stated in LifeNews.com, "A vote for the Senate-passed health bill (H.R. 3590) is a vote for the most expansively pro-abortion legislation ever to come before the House of Representatives, since Roe v. Wade, and will be accurately so" to pro-life advocates, NRLC officials say in the letter LifeNews.com obtained.

"We respectfully urge that you vote against this legislation and against any
measure or procedure that might be employed in an attempt to move it towards the President’s desk," Right to Life asks.

On the other hand, should lawmakers vote against the Senate measure, NRLC says they can expected to be greeted with heartfelt thanks from the majority of Americans, who are pro-life on abortion.

"Pro-life citizens across America know that this is a pro-abortion bill. They know, and they will be reminded again and again, which members of the House deserve the gratitude of the pro-life movement for standing strong on this historic vote," NRLC said.

We all know that the fix is in and they (Pelosi and her brood) do not want anyone to know what is is in the bill. No one in the real world - that is the public - really knows what is in the bill. That is dangerous. Why else would they have these very important bills voted on at the strangest times. Remember how the House kept the members there up to Thanksgiving day and the Senate up until Christmas Eve.

Also remember one thing. any time you are being asked to do something with out being able to read the fine print, just walk away.

Its all about abortion

Once again the fault line is abortion.

As many have been saying over the last year, the whole push for health care reform is nothing more than an attempt by the extreme left to mandate abortion coverage and funnel billions of dollars to organizations such as Planned Parenthood.

Evidence of this massive conspiracy to overturn the Hyde Amendment and to enshrine abortion funding in law was seen in President Obama's pre-election speech before Planned Parenthood in 2008 and most recently in Representative Bart Stupak's interview during which he discussed Henry Waxman's statements about the upcoming vote on the Senate bill. Quoting Waxman, Stupak told LifeNews.com of a conversation he had with Waxman:

"I [Stupak] gave him [Waxman] the language. He came back a little while later and said, "But we want to pay for abortions." I said, "Mr. Chairman, that's -- we disagree. We don't do it now, we're not going to start," Stupak related.

"But we think should," Stupak said Waxman told him, according to a Fox News writeup of the interview.

Stupak continued: "I said, 'Well, I'm sorry but the House has spoken. We had that debate. We won 240-190. You forced the vote, a vote we won fair and square and we're not gonna, this is what it is. If you want to move health care keep current law.'"

Waxman has long been a radical extremist on the subject of abortion. His penchant for strong arming pro-abortion policies has happened time and again.

the California politician is well known for talking out of his both sides of his mouth. examine his comments last Oct 2009:

"We have a difference of opinion at the moment we cannot bridge," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where the abortion language was approved. "We have done everything we can to ensure that there will be no federal funds for abortion services."

Of course no self respecting pro-life advocate would be fooled by Waxman and his antics. But it is just additional proof that the Democrat leadership in the congress along with the president are more concerned about padding Planned Parenthood's pockets than really addressing the issues of Health care. By now everyone has heard of the Democrat efforts to force the so called health care reform bill through the process of reconciliation, a means whereby the Senate only needs 51 votes to pass the measure. What is not mentioned is that both bills have to be identical in order for there to be a reconciliation vote. the Senate does not appear to be in any way ready to vote for the House version which contains the Stupak-Pitts Amendment prohibiting the use of tax dollars to fund abortion. The Senate bill contains very extreme pro-abortion language as well as language not approved by liberals. So there is no way both pro-life and liberal members of the House are going to support the Senate version as written. Indeed if Pelosi had the votes, she would have called a vote by now. Her comments today that this is not about abortion only prove the point. The more she protests that there is no funding of abortion, the more incredible her statements become.

Nevertheless it is imperative that those who wish to stop this abomination of a bill contact their representatives and remind them that if they do not vote against this bill, they will feel the wrath of the electorate come November.

The House will have to vote on the Senate version and Bart Stupak has said publicly that he knows of 10 to 15 votes that will not support any version that does not contain a prohibition against abortion funding. He has also stated that Pelosi is misleading the public when she makes the claim that there is no promotion of abortion in the Senate bill. Of course anyone who has followed Madame Speaker knows she is the consummate political prevaricator. She will stop at nothing to get her own way.

For all the sports fans who appreciate the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat," yesterday's Super Bowl XLIV will go down as most memorable. Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints and to the people of New Orleans.

What was also memorable was the two weeks of flurry surrounding the "controversial" Focus on the Family ad involving Tim Tebow and his mom. Pro-abortion forces tried to pressure CBS in to dumping the ad. For two weeks the Tebows were subjected to slanderous assaults on their character while liberal pundits complained about this ad from the "anti-choice, homophobic, extreme right wing" conservative organization.

When the dust settled and the ad had been seen by millions, almost everyone who saw the ad realized how insanity has taken hold of the pro-abortion industry.

The Tebow ad was a simple humorous and very innocuous celebration of the love between a mother and her son - who happens to be a pretty decent fellow and a darn good quarterback. Wow - real controversial - a mother who loves her son and a son who is appreciative of his mother.

But never let it be said that the NOW cows and the NARAL wackos had any clue on decency. Nor let it be said that they even understand some of the values lived by the Tebows or any family that really believes in the sanctity of life. No, the best thing that happened was that the American people saw how empty and shallow are the extremists that promote abortion.

Now is the time to remind the American people that our greatness is found in our generosity toward life, in our desire to share the bounties of liberty and our willingness to sacrifice for those in need.

That openness is found in respecting the beauty of life is personified in the innocent little child. as a country, as a society, and as a culture we need to affirm life and reject those who would lead us down the sterile path to oblivion.

Sally Jenkins Gets Some Parts Of It Right

You know what we really need more of? Famous guys who aren't embarrassed to practice sexual restraint, and to say it out loud. If we had more of those, women might have fewer abortions. See, the best way to deal with unwanted pregnancy is to not get the sperm in the egg and the egg implanted to begin with, and that is an issue for men, too -- and they should step up to that.

That was Sally Jenkins, Sports columnist for the Washington Post, writing about Tim Tebow. And while she may be totally off base as to her position on abortion, her comments on the importance of men taking some responsibility for their actions is right on point. In fact after reading her comments, I think men now have a good rejoinder to the tired old attack by the feminists that this is strictly a woman's issue, and men need not submit a thought, an opinion, or a viewpoint.

As for the rest of the NOW crowd and their insane attacks on Tim Tebow's mom, they have done for the pro-life effort what sadly 350,000 Americans marching on the Capitol could not - put the pro-life issue on the front page AND make the pro-abortion or pro-choice side look like the fools they are. Lets face it, the media is not going to criticize the pro-abortion side or their political allies. And like dutiful stooges, the media for the most part, ignored the marches, rallies and remembrances throughout the country this past January 22. After all it would not seem proper for the nation to know that its citizens had not accepted the results of Roe after 37 years. Combine this information with the knowledge that abortion hurts women and kills a baby and people might re-think the "I am personally opposed, but..." approach. They might actually consider adopting a pro-life perspective.

So - thank you Mrs Tebow, Tim and Focus on the Family,for making the commercial ....and for all you wacko pro-abortionists for deciding to attack the commercial and thus allowing the nation to actually have a discussion on the most critical issue facing the country.

Those of you who joined us for the Annual March and Rally for life were not disappointed yesterday. A beautiful day marked the occasion and a healthy crowd of thousands gathered at Steele Park in Phoenix to hear Senator Jon Kyl, Governor Jan Brewer, Congressmen, Franks and Shadegg and a number of other pro-life leaders speak about their conviction and their involvement with right to life. Once again we showcased the importance of our young people who are the next generation of leadership.

MARCH FOR LIFE IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

HUGE. That is all I can say. The largest in recent memory. Some informal estimates at 300,000. In my humble opinion, there were more like 500,000 people attending the March. Pro-lifers swarmed Washington D.C. on a cool but rain free day. The sun even came out at the end of the day while the women from Silent No More gave their testimony.

Of course there was little media coverage. What can one expect of a dying industry?

Tucson Right to Life March and Rally - a success

Just a note to congratulate all those right to lifers in Tucson who marched 4.5 miles from downtown Tucson to Holy Hope Cemetery to remember the tragic loss of life due to abortion over the last 37 years.

Credit belongs to Kelly and Barbara Copeland, their family, and the many volunteers who assisted them along with John Tabor of the local CPC, and Sunny Turner, one of our chapter leaders. A special thanks to Bishop Kicanas who not only celebrated a beautiful mass at the Cathedral before the march and gave a wonderful homily, but who also joined the thousands who marched to the cemetery.

A most fitting end to the event was the reading of each year that abortion has been legal in the nation, during which time someone would place a single red rose before the memorial monument while a single bell would toll. After the thirty seven roses wee placed, a single white rose was laid down by a mother with child who will deliver her baby in 2010. White doves were then released and a final prayer was said.

I was very proud to have been a part of the event, was moved by the remarks of the various speakers and felt privileged to have been able to address the crowd.

Congratulations, Tucson. Now on to electing pro-life representatives who will respect the right to life of all people, born and unborn.

By now everyone has been reading about the special election to fill the U.S. senate seat recently vacated following the death of Edward Kennedy. The Democrats filled the position with a lackey named Kirk who pledged not to run in the special election. This was suppose to be Martha Coakley's seat. After all she was the state attorney general and it was her turn. The Democrats own the seat and we all want to honor old Teddy, right?

Well, someone forgot to tell Scott Brown the Republican nominee. At first he was going to be the typical sacrificial lamb offered by by a lack luster remnant of what republican politics in the Northeast had once been. Then again someone also forgot to tell the people of Massachusetts - still think that their vote ought to mean something.

Now clear us be clear. Brown is not pro-life and he has a lot to learn on the issue. But he will be better than Coakley who is an Emily's list and Planned Parenthood affectionado. Sher responded in an interview asking about conscience rights of Catholic health care workers that “You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.” So in addition to being an elitist, she has an anti-Catholic prejudice.

Brown opposes ObamaCare, pledges to be the 41st vote against it, does not want tax dollars going for abortion and supports parental notification laws. Coakley is calling him "anti-choice." Well he may not be there yet, but if the left pushes hard enough, they may push him right into a pro-life position.

We like true converts. Here is an opportunity to win one and establish lines of real communication.

The results of this election could be the beginning of something big.

Christmas 2009

Another year has passed and today is Christmas Eve. For so many right now the effects of the economy are taking its toll on friends, family and finances. The ever growing and seemingly unstoppable power of government to intrude in our lives drowns out any hope people have to live their lives in freedom. One gets the feeling that we are living in “Pottersville” and can only hope to wake up from this depressing nightmare.

A long time ago a people who once walked in darkness were shown a great and wonderful Light. They too were oppressed by a government that cared for itself than the people. Their lives were considered “not worth living” by those who held the reins of power. For many of them each day was a struggle just to stay alive.

In this present day throughout the world, people still struggle with oppression, with hunger, with war and disease. For them simple things like clean running water and uncontaminated food are luxuries. For them a quiet night without gunfire or explosions is a gift without measure. So much that we have we take for granted. Christmas affords us a moment to take stock and be thankful for all that God has given us, staring with the ultimate gift – His Son, Jesus Christ.

How then should we live? Those of us involved in pro-life work are often frustrated by the lack of progress, the continuing defeats, the defections and betrayals, the political posturing. But can we ever quit? Can we ever lose sight that our hope is not in princes and politicians but in the Creator of the universe? Can we ever forget that in every life that is saved, we have, by the grace of God, allowed for another human being to have a chance to know the saving love of Jesus Christ? Can we ever ignore the incredible gift that is each and every person?

It is because we love, because we care, because we know that there is right and wrong, that we cannot quit, we cannot become discouraged and that we will never be defeated in our efforts to protect and defends every innocent human person from conception to natural death. We are the ones who believe in people, in the future, in the hope for tomorrow. We are the ones who, despite setbacks, will always get up, will never stop and will always be there for the weak and the oppressed. A friend of mine speaks of it as being ‘whole life’ and he makes the point well that we who care about our brother and sister in the womb also care about the baby in Darfur, the family in Appalachia, the migrant in Salinas. We start with our family and then reach out to the community, and then to the world at large. And we offer this view of life to all who are open to the Truth; for it is the only view that nourishes life and develops the soul.

So this weekend as you enjoy the blessings of God’s peace in the greatest gift ever given, pray for the little ones, pray for their mothers and fathers that they might choose life. Pray for our nation’s leaders that they might reflect on the message in Chronicles, as we all get on our knees, humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and ask God to heal this land. Pray for those who stand up for life to hold fast to the Truth and not waiver. Be strong, do not be afraid. Remember that He who was born this Christmas night has won the eternal victory.

So what prompts a United States Senator to say for weeks that he will hold firm on the pro-life issue as a matter of principle only to cave in during the wee hours of the morning prior to the vote?

Aside from the obvious bribes for his vote, did the democratic leadership have something on him that he could not allow to be revealed?

And what about Bob Casey of Pennsylvania? where was he while all of this was happening?

It doesn't make sense except in the context of the dirty rough and tough Chicago style politics that has been the real "change" that Washington has seen since Obama and his hit men blew into town.

Well from now on he is Benedict Arnold Nelson, the man who betrayed a million unborn lives.

Harry Reid and racism in the U. S. Senate

The vote to table (kill) the Nelson-Hatch Amendment to eliminate abortion from the Senate so called health bill 55-45 marks another racist vote by the U. S. Senate.

The Senators need to look at the video that addresses this reality.

Fort. Hood Massacre - 14 people died

Major Nidal M. Hasan has been charged with the murders of thirteen people. Yet 14 people died on that bloody day. So why won't federal prosecutors charge the Muslim extremist with the death of the unborn child who was killed by Hasan as well?

It is a serious and legitimate question given the intentional effort of Hasan to kill as many as possible. The child was wanted by his mother and the child is a human being. The federal government also has a law on the books to address just this problem. Further the killer did not give the mom a choice. He just acted in the same way abortionists do. So prosecutors need is to look like they can file a case against this killer for destroying not only the adults but the child in the womb as well.

Anything less is cowardice.

The health care issue - now what?

With the passage of the Stupak-Pitts Amendment to the health care bill, the house narrowly passed the entire bill 220-215. The bill is seriously flawed, including from a strictly pro-life perspective and it is a mistake to think that simply because the Stupak amendment was attached, we have dome all we can do. There is still so much that needs to be added to the bill to eliminate any possibility that abortion and euthanasia will be funded or promoted by any federal legislation.

Now for the record, I do not like this bill or any of the Senate versions. I think that the federal government corrupts most of what it touches, be it education, energy policy, you name it. I think that the most effective government efforts are at the local and state levels and that the principle of subsidiarity should apply. Further the private sector, the churches and the public charities should take up the slack as they all are more effective and efficient than government bureaucracies.
But it seems that my voice and opinion are not shared by those in Washington, D.C.

The following Pro-life amendments were voted down in the Senate Finance Committee. However, they should be presented as absolutely necessary to address our minimum concerns as pro-lifers.

Abortion Mandate

Hatch Amdt. #C14 (355): Prohibits authorized or appropriated federal funds under this Mark from being used for elective abortions and plans that cover such abortions.

Enzi Amdt. #12 (426): To ensure that mandates on abortions are prohibited.

Enzi Amdt. #C13 (427): To ensure that abortions are not paid for with federal funds and for the purchase of supplemental abortion coverage without federal funds.

Enzi Amdt. #C14 (428): To ensure state abortion laws and regulations are not preempted by provisions in the underlying bill.

Conscience Protections

Enzi Amdt. #C15 (429): To ensure that conscience protections are applied.

Hatch Amdt. #13 (354): Non-discrimination on abortion and respect for right of conscience.

Physician Assisted Suicide

Hatch Amdt. #C12 (353) [Accepted in Concept]: Prohibits federal funds under this Bill from being used to pay for assisted suicide and offers conscience protections to providers or plans refusing to offer assisted suicide services.

As my friends over at A.U.L.said "The abortion lobby is using health care reform to try to end-run around the Hyde Amendment which has been a thorn in their side. Their ultimate objective is to define abortion as basic health care, which Americans do not support." In fact he latest polls show that the American people not only oppose the health care bills but also supported the ban on use of federal dollars for abortion.

The pro-abortion side intends to strip the bill of the Stupak amendment in conference committee after the Senate does its thing. Whether it ever gets through the Senate will depend on you and me and the 52% of the American people on record opposing socialized medicine. And the Left will argue to remove the ban of abortion funding. But we have other concerns about the bill as we ell.

We are concerned about the cost and the burden it will place on the next generation of taxpayers - our children. We are concerned about the whole end of life emphasis on "end of life" counseling. Now to be candid, if I were giving the end of life counseling, everyone would consider it a good conversation. after all who we are and what we should do in our last days is very important and both relationally and spiritually significant. Words like reconciliation and forgiveness and restoring relationships with loved ones so that love and peace will mark the end of one's life should be the focus of a conversation. Addressing the issues of planning and finances and making sure there are those to care for survivors are essential to the process. But we must always recognize the dignity of the person and his intrinsic worth as a human being.

So we must demand strong conscience provisions for health care providers.

We must make sure there is no push to define our elderly and those disabled as burdens to their family and society.

We should demand that Planned parenthood receive absolutely NO money from this Health care bill or any more money from HHS or the federal government.

Finally we must demand that the Senate respect the citizens of this country and have a fair and open debate on the entire bill- all 1900 plus pages, so that the American people will actually know what the bill states and what the impact will be on the average citizen.

The people deserve nothing less.

House adopts Stupak-Pitts Amendment - House passes Health care measure 220-215

WASHINGTON (November 7, 2009) — The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of right-to-life organizations in the 50 states, issued the following statement regarding today's actions in the House of Representatives on the health care restructuring legislation, H.R. 3962.

The House adopted the NRLC-backed Stupak-Pitts Amendment, 240-194. The Stupak-Pitts Amendment removed two major pro-abortion components from H.R. 3962. Specifically: (1) the amendment would permanently prohibit the new federal government insurance program, the "public option," from paying for abortion, except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest; and (2) the amendment would permanently prohibit the use of the new federal premium subsidies ("affordability credits") to purchase private insurance plans that cover abortion (except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest). The amendment was sponsored by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mi.) and Joe Pitts (R-Pa.). It was supported by 176 Republicans and 64 Democrats. It was opposed by 194 Democrats. One Republican withheld his support by voting "present."

NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson said: "The Obama White House and top congressional Democratic leaders spent months concealing and misrepresenting provisions that would directly fund abortions through a government plan, and subsidize premiums for private abortion plans. Today's bipartisan House vote is a sharp blow to the White House's pro-abortion smuggling operation. But we know that the White House and pro-abortion congressional Democratic leaders will keep trying to enact government funding of abortion, and will keep trying to conceal their true intentions, so there is a long battle ahead."

The Associated Press reported, "Abortion rights advocates called the measure the biggest setback to women's reproductive rights in decades."

In addition to working hard to remove abortion subsidies from the bill, NRLC has sought to educate lawmakers and the public about components of H.R. 3962 that could result in rationing or discriminatory denial of lifesaving medical care. A letter sent by NRLC to the House late today, summarizing objectionable elements of the amended bill, is posted here. The letter states: "We will continue to work to correct provisions that we find objectionable in this area, both in the health care legislation that will come before the Senate, and in any conference committee on health care legislation. We reserve the right to score the roll call vote on the conference report, or on any Senate-passed bill, if these concerns are not
adequately resolved."

PHOENIX (November 8, 2009) Arizona Right to life noted passage of the House bill on Health care reform after adoption of the Stupak-Pitts amendment by blasting the House leadership for the late night tactics and continued deception of the American people. John Jakubczyk stated, " The late night vote over this weekend orchestrated by Nancy Pelosi reflects a desperation on the part of pro-abortion democrats who want to pass a bill that still contains objectionable and unconstitutional elements that offend the sensibilities of the American people. So their answer to representative government is to meet in the dead of night and pass a 2000 page monstrosity and call it serving the people. Aside for m the conscience clause problems and the "death panels" still in the bill, the punitive use of the tax code to scare people into subjugation has yet to be digested by the American people. When it is, there will be a roar that will make the August recess look like a walk in the park."

Jakubczyk also commended Doug Johnson and the NRLC staff for their efforts to keep pro-lifers focused on getting the needed votes to pass the Stupak-Pitts Amendment. Jakubczyk also stressed that the Democratic leadership could attempt to jettison the amendment if the bill gets to a joint conference committee with the Senate version and reminded everyone that vigilance is required along with eliminating other objectionable parts of the bill.

The Hippocratic Oath: Classical Version. and Modern Version

Since many people have heard of the The Hippocratic Oath, I thought it would be appropriate with all this discussion of Health care to provide it to the reader so that one would know exactly how the classical and modern versions read.

I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation.

TO RECKON him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look up his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according the law of medicine, but to none others.

It is all about abortion

Even as the Drudge Report headlines a story about scientists "creating" sperm so as to penetrate artificially "created" eggs (thus ironically proving once again that each individual person has his or her beginning at conception), The House leadership under the liberal Nancy Pelosi announced their intention to unveil the House Health care plan this morning. The Democratic bill would fund abortion. It seems that the so called moderate Democrats including some pro-life Democrats may not get a chance to make any amendments to the proposed legislation. for the last few weeks Democrats such as Bart Stupak have been telling everyone that a bill that does not specifically ban abortion would be stopped. Many of us were very grateful for these courageous words. Let us hope that they are not mere words.

Recent statements made by Stupak have concerned pro-life leaders who worry that the powerful Democratic leadership which takes a hold no prisoner approach to controlling its members ( no freedom of thought here -thank you very much) may have set up a "staged" or fixed " vote to provide some cover for the so called "Blue Dog" democrats.

This has prompted some reporters and commentators to publicly worry that these democrats may crack.

That being the case we all need to contact the House and call our representatives and tell them we oppose this monstrosity of a bill.

As an attorney familiar with constitutional issues, I personally have problems wit hits constitutionality. I find no serious constitutional authority to act in this way.

Each one of us needs to pass this message on to our friends and neighbors. Obama, Pelosi and Reid owe the abortion industry and the NOW and NARAL folks big time. Planned Parenthood has been building new abortuaries throughout the country. In each place this building of a free standing facility is designed to absorb more people, hence more abortions.

This is the hear of what Planned Parenthood wanted and what Barak Obama promised them.

Keep this all in prayer and by all means contact your representative and tell them you oppose any health car tat contains abortion as a part of health care. Since when after all is killing anyone, much less a child ever flippantly justified.
